F#’s and Pedigree

I am curious to know why F#’s are not listed as a part of the pedigree.

Case in point, I adopted a F5. The sire and the dam are both listed on bengalpedigrees.com

When I backtrack through the family tree is where I’m getting a little confused. There are instances where I can go back a dozen or so matings and all the cats are listed as SBT. Now this has me puzzled. The only way I figured this is possible (as to my guy being a F5) is due to SBT’s being bred back to foundation stock thus lowering the F#? But that can’t be right since EG’s can’t be registered as SBT’s so that leaves me at square one. How do breeders determine the F#?

Tracing a few other routes of the lineage (and going back as far in my above question) I do see some cats listed with other designations such as A0T, B0T, C0T and such. Are these indicators of the filial? Such as A=F1 and so on? If not, what do they signify?

Originally this sparked my curiosity when I didn't see an ALC cross anywhere going 4 generations back on either side and all cats listed are SBT's. Made me wonder if my F5 is actually F5+. But since I was provided with just about every form of documentation from the previous owner I guess I'll just stick with what I was told since there's no reason to think otherwise. Not to mention trying to figure it out on my own was starting to hurt the brain :lol:

Hi Dan this my F2 Rudys pedigree, and my SBT Darcys Pedigree, so you can compare the 2... Rudy's is the 1st 1 then Darcys..

Rudy's pedigree looks really straight forward as determining the filial

but I could only venture to guess the F# of Darcy. (obviously F4 and above)

Both have some nice heritage btw!

Dan if yours is listed as an F5, it won't show on your 4 generation pedigree as an F5 is 5 generations away from the nearest ALC ancestor.
This means one of the parents is 5 generations away, the other could be many generations away, so you would need to trace back each ancestor to find which one is the closest to the ALC.
If you want a hand, PM me the names of the 2 parents (if you don't want to name them publicly) & I'll be happy to try & trace back & find all the ALCs for you, I'm a bit of a pedigree nerd LOL! :lol:

Usually A1T is F1, B2T is F2 & C3T is F3, but there are a lot in Bengal pedigrees who have been entered incorrectly into the database & also who were registered incorrectly in the earlier days when the breed was still gaining acceptance, so it isn't always a steadfast rule to go by.
Also an F1 isn't neccessarily always the offspring of an ALC. It can be the first outcross of any breed, for example, a Bengal mated to a domestic shorthair will be an F1.
Early on, some domestic shorthairs were also registered as F1s even though their ancestry was completely unknown...it all makes it very confusing but interesting too :wink:

Maybe I have a F6? I’m guessing that Bentley’s (on Milky Way’s side) registration number BEN……-F2 is the lowest common denominator. He must be a F2 as per the B (and perhaps the F2 at the end as well). But if I click on Bentley I would think it would easily show the ALC cross but it doesn't. Not sure what the E is in his registration number either as I don’t see info on that in the link Elaine was nice enough to provide. I also see a few matings where two SBT's produce a BEN--- cat? That's confusing too, not that I need to know the why :lol:

Seems the more I understand, the more there is to know, or rather since a pet owner is all I’ll ever be, is best left to be checked by others.
