Just wondering what you all use as a birthing box and what is best to use in them?

Just trying to get a bit organised.

Hi,

A lot of breeders use the galvanised steel kittening pens, or dog crates even.
I found that my queens ended up being too stressed in cages, so now I have super large plastic dog beds and I use high tog duvets for the bedding. They seem to love the thickness of the duvets and so far all of them have been very happy, and they haven’t tried to move the kittens.
My queens do have their own rooms though so that possibly makes a difference to them feeling comfortable.

I also now have ‘puppy pens’, similar to this one:


These are absolutely great when the babies start ‘wobble walking’, and especially if you need to pop them in a safe place whilst you are cleaning etc…They have lots of room to play and no metal bars to catch their paws in etc…

Even a good strong cardboard box will suffice. You can purchase disposable birthing boxes online.

We had one of the puppy pens for Belle and it's great You can unzip the roof so that mum can get out but the babies can't until they're a bit older
