Hi,
This thread, along with a couple of others in the past couple of weeks, I have found very interesting.
Junglerose, there is rarely a message, (never in fact!), that you post that I don’t wholeheartedly agree with, so excuse me if I’m just reiterating what you have already said.
This thread is interesting in particular because, as a Bengal pet/show owner, I would never entertain enquiring about a kitten from anyone who only put a pet name on a website – the automatic thought that would enter my head would be that this lack of professionalism would indicate that the cats were not registered!
It certainly wouldn’t enter my head that the breeder was new to web design and indeed some of these sites look very impressive. If you are capable of typing a pet name then you are capable of typing the registered name of the sire and dam, also the registered name of the grandparents, it’s as simple as that. The absence of any fuller pedigree is forgivable as this can easily be worked out.
Not long ago when I was actively searching for my new kitten I was very surprised to find some websites that didn’t display the sire and dam’s pedigree names. These I think are the minimum requirements for a prospective buyer to decide whether they want to precede further to a phone call.
The Bengal world is VERY small and someone who’s cats can’t be seen to be connected to any lines at all is just asking to be open to suspicion of being, at the very worst, a BYB. I’m sure there are many new breeders who just aren’t familiar with what is the customary way to advertise kittens on a website but this can easily be learnt by looking at reputable breeders websites to see how other hobby breeders do it.
If you have a beautiful litter of kittens from your gorgeous girl and handsome stud then you should be proud to announce the birth with the full registered names of your lovely cats and at least something about their linage!!
Lyndazbengals, this post is not directed at you as I can see from your website that you have beautiful cats from reputable breeders, (Cash is gorgeous!!) But it would be really lovely to see their lines! Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who have jumped on, what they think is, the Bengal Big Bucks Bandwagon, who aren’t so trustworthy and who don’t care about cats, registration or the intricacies of breeding – they may however, be very good at web design. Good buyers, whether breeders or pets, just want to be able to filter out these breeders before having to deal with them on the phone.
Annie

“I do in fact supply details of pedigree names of the parents of any of my available kittens on my kitten page so I am not saying there should be no indication as to the lineage of cats just simply that it an individual choice to do so or not to do so.”

Yes of course it’s the prerogative of the breeder as to whether they want to display their cat’s pedigree details. But surely to help people who are looking at a website to decide whether they want to proceed further, just being provided with the pedigree names of the parents is just not enough.
For example - to discover Cash’s pedigree I had to Google him and found his linage to be excellent – yes, it is your choice whether to display some indication on your website of his linage but if I were you I would be rejoicing it! As a prospective buyer I really shouldn’t have to rely on Google to find out whether I’m interested in buying a kitten or not!!

It is fair comment Annie, but my personal preference is to conatct breeder & talk to them, also gives you a feel for the person too. Just because a cat had fabby pedigree doesn't always mean it indicates that it automatically makes it a no boner as to choice. I can understand your point re info etc but I personally dont mind spending the time talking to breeders if I am interested in obtaining a cat or kitten. If it turns out to be related to my exsisting cats then I can live with that. I would far rather get a feel for the breeder too & you simply cannot get this by just looking at a pedigree. Lots of things influence the purchase of a cat/kitten. This is just my personal preference. Two sides to every coin & doesn't make either one wrong. I am happy to discuss any of my cats lineage to anyone who enquires, maybe I am more of a chatterbox lol. I have made many good friends along the way mainly by "chatting" about pedigrees etc. I also like to get a feel for any prospective buyer & wouldn't be automatically selling to just anyone regardless whether they were basing their enquiry on my cats lineage or they simply were looking for a quality pet. It is all horses for courses really.....
