Hi all.

My little girl was sold to me by the breeder as a seal lynx, possibly silver-seal lynx, she wasn't sure.

How do I tell which one she is? I'm thinking she's more than likely seal and not silver-seal, but are there differences between the two colours or would genetic colour testing help? Would she 'carry' silver if she is silver lynx or does it not work like that?

I'm learning more and more about genetics but am stuck on silver-seal :)

Thanks in advance.

Can you post a photo of your kitty?

Genetic testing is available for color/coat with UCDavis veterinary association. You can call them first and ask if you will find out the answer you are looking for before doing it as it is not cheap. I will look for the link that explains what the results uncover.

Hiya, yes this is her.

I have to test her for dilute anyway so was just wondering whether she might have the inhibitor gene as well, so she would test as carrying silver.

Her mum is blue and so is her grandfather, and both her mum and dad have a lot of blues, silvers and charcoal in their pedigrees.

She is gorgeous. I'm not into genetics, so I can't help determine whether she's a silver or not.

What a beautiful girl you have :) As to testing her to see if she is silver, unfortunately you can't. There is currently no test for silver. The only way she may be a silver lynx is if one of her parents is silver? Silver cannot be carried, meaning at least one parent has to be silver for any offspring to be, silver is dominant unlike snow and marble that are recessive. Hope this helps :)
