This is question about a breeder I visited today and there approach to breeding. I got there and tbh was shocked! there were 7 large dog kennel/cages in the house with anything from 3-7 kittens in each plus a queen in some cases. There were further outdoor cat shelters with paired cats (4 pairs) in them and one with 4 21 week old kittens... 3 were females the breeder was keeping and one was a very attractive male I asked to see him and he was terrified as soon as the breeder went in to get him once he was out he spent the whole time shaking whilst he was out. i asked who his parents were and they showed me the stud and said the queen was inside and went in to show me her... She had 4 kittens that he told me were nearly 5 weeks old is this even possible and if so it can't be right the boy was 21 weeks, so he was weaned off her and she was re bred and had kittens all within a 16 week period I know some people have morals and other don't but this doesn't seem right at all is there anything that can be done about this sort of situation and what sort of time to most breeders on here allow between matings? I must add all the cats did appear healthy although very unsocialised/fearful

This is not acceptable breeding. I am quite saddened, angry and shocked at this really.

I breed (not Bengals) and i have 2 queens although one is only 6 months old. My queens will have 1 litter every 10-12 months all being well. I would wait a little longer than 10 months if i could but my queen loses condition with each call and so would be quite poorly sometimes if left any longer. She will have her 3rd and final litter next year.

Most responsible breeders will follow a similar pattern, sometimes a little earlier than 10 months.

What you describe is mathematically possible, but very irresponsible and morrally wrong. The breeder is treating the cats like a machine and her cats and kittens will not be in the best of health physically or mentally. They may look well but i wonder what inbred problems they have.

Does she register the kittens? You can report them to the GCCF and TICA. YOu can also report them to the RSPCA who will have something to say about the cages in the house i would have thought.

Would you please email me the name of the breeder and their location....? I know some people involved in reporting BYB (and they certainly fit the bill).....

How much are they asking for and what age do they let the kittens leave at?

Well done on walking away... a lot of people still go through with a sale thinking they are saving a kitten from such conditions.... only they are just encouraging a breeder like this to continue.

These 'breeders' make my blood boil.....

Ugh. That's upsetting.

To be honest, I was a little put off when my breeder told me that she kept her F1 babies in large cages at night. She told me one night the F1s were roaming around (because they get into everything and anything) and one managed to get into a closet and knock over a large suitcase that crushed him beneath it. After that I can imagine with having multiple litters of F1s at a single time why you would want to keep complete tabs on them like that and have them enclosed safely overnight... but I can't imagine someone actually KEEPING kittens and queens in cages. Seems like no kind of life at all.

I hope you guys are able to work something out to where these jerks are confronted about this.

This makes me sick! I am glad you walked away from that and YES there is something that can be done ! This is somewhat of the same conditions that I found my dog in! I went to look at puppies that I found in our local paper so my husband and I along with our four children went to pick out a puppy! We were going to look at Brussel Griffons and when we got there it was so horrible I hand to bite my tounge and find the dog that was worse than the rest. I walked into a corner of this basement that had 50+ wooden crates in it and I saw this tiny little dog that had long white matted hair ! I picked im up and took him to a wash tub that she had!I washed him and dried him gave her 200 dollars and walked out! I went straight to out truck and called the humane society they sent out a vet cops and animal cruelty agents to investigate! She went to jail, I got my money back , and we now have the most amazing little mutt ever!


This is Max and BB when she first came home! She has owned him since!
