When I picked up honey, I got this slip of paper that you can send off to the US as a transfer of ownership with the TICA.

Is this essential? I mean she's a pet, I'm not showing her or breeding and she's been spayed.

It's entirely up to you. It's not essential but it's your proof of ownership. They are not just for breeders or people who show they are every pedigree pet owner's registration slips. I know of 1 case where it was used in the courts regarding ownership.

You may get more chance at replies in 'Discussion' or 'Tips and Advice' as not everyone looks in the 'Breeding' section.

Ive still not transferred my first pet into my name. And according to TICA I still own my entire first litter - so those haven't transferred either lol.

In regards to legally - I remember Judge Judy (lol) once saying the legal owner of a pet is one that looks after it daily, feeds it, houses it, gets vet treatment for it etc regardless of any registration paperwork - not sure how true that is though

I haven't sent the transfer off either, it doesn't make any difference to me who the cat is registered to with TICA, i know it's only $12 but it's $12 for a piece of paper i have no need for. As far as legal ownership goes i have a signed contract from the breeder and the microchip is registered in my name.

I know it is only a piece of paper but, to me, it is kind of like their birth certificates. I was so excited when i got Evie's through as she is the first pedigree cat i got.

There was some talk of this on a forum i'm on which is mostly US breeders. They had concerns over this due to new legislation being discussed over there with regards to breeders. There are strict rules if they have a certain number of cats and the thoughts were that TICA registrations may be used to determine how many cats the breeder owned. A lot of the breeders were going to be completing the forms themselves at the time of collection and sending them off. The fee being added to the sale price.

If it's a problem or a preference of the breeders that the owner does complete the transfer i'm happy to do it.
