hi all after a little advise im a new breeder this will be my 1st litter just got confirmation jana is expecting 4 kittens i would like to no do i have to kepp the male and female seperated or will they be ok to stay together i think seperating them will distress both of them but need to no for sure so i can do whats best

I dont really understand what you mean? do you mean the males/females in the litter?

just re-read do you mean the stud & girl? then yes, she will be getting moody and not wanting to play and they MUST be kept seperated after the birth, I would never ever let a un-neutered male near my kittens, not even supervised, no way! They could kill them, you just dont know what they will do.

I only let my neuter boys (neutered for 14 &7years) near my kittens after 8weeks and ALWAYS supervised, lucky they dont care and run from them anyway!

but yes seperate from now on, and after to as you dont want her getting in kitten again, just the way it is, the relationship will change between them to now.

I've always kept my girls in with the Father until about two weeks before they're due to give birth. I think once the queen is pregnant it's less stressful for them to be moved too soon, and if they both get along very well I can't see a problem at all.

I would keep Jana on her own though about 10-14 days before the kittens are due. Keep her in a nice warm room with enough space for exercise and her own birthing area which should be dark and of course well heated in this weather. I find using a baby duvet for the bedding is very practical and snug for the queen. You can turn it a few times so that the birthing smell remains and as it's very thick and 'bouncy' there is less chance of a kitten being accidentally suffocated. Some people also believe that flat bedding can either cause or increase FCK in kittens so this is another good reason to think about using a duvet or similar.

THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR REPLIES sorry for caps i spoke to the breeder and as marley is still trying to hump jana i have no seperated the stud and queen as dont want him hurting her, they dont seem to be missing each other as of yet and jana seems happier now as well but thanks for your replis i will keep you updated on janas progress so excited
