Hi guys i just bought a 9 month old bengal girl who is undesexed and i was considering having those long nights with her by breeding her but first i wanted some advice as I only want to breed her if she is a top quality cat (I have a strong belief that animals shouldn't be cross bred as it wrecks their great looks! especially bengals

I have read up on some posts made about the joys of breeding and have done some online digging of information about breeding bengals and have found some very helpful information. like one of them says im not here to make money but to help breed good looking bengals and not rubbish. :D

At what age would be a good age for bengal queens to be breeding/when do i know she is ready to care for kittens.

I'll put some photos of her and please let me know your opinion

Hi,
Can you please answer these questions firstly.
Did you buy her as a breeding female?
Is her breeder aware that you want to breed from her?

I bought her from the breeder she got rid of her breeders due to her husbands health and she was going to be breed as she said due to her long body she was a good cat to breed. I bought her undesexed so that i could breed her.

My only worry is if she isn't the best bengal to breed as she isn't "show quality" as i would also like to enter her into some shows.

i know some people just buy because they were cheap and have hopes of making money out of them and not because they love the cat and breed. the only reason i never had one until now is because my mother was highly allergic to them. i am a little but i dont mind as it doesnt bother a little itchy nose around her.

Has the breeder given you her papers and is she now registered as a breeding cat under your name?

I think maybe you should wait a while before you start thinking about breeding. I know you have said you have done research and the likes but its a very expensive and time consuming process and if this is your first bengal (as it seems from your other thread) you might not possess all the knowledge about bengals that you need until you have had your girl for a considerable amount of time. They are fantastic cats and who wouldn't want a house full of bengal kittens but they are also a lot of hard work as a breed.

I know there are some fantastic breeders on here that can give you wonderful advice but i'm just giving you my opinion. I've only had Deuce 2 months and from my experience with him and reading other peoples experiences I would never want to breed bengals because I have neither the time, space or money for it. The question you need to ask yourself is why you want to breed more than anything :)

Hi
I think you need to wait and get as much information about breeding...
There is a book on cat breeding and it will tell you everything you need to know. Its very hard work but rewarding.

Nesferxty as i said i have been doing alot of research about breeding to the point i have a good vet who can do emergency c sections if she would require. i know from past experiences that bringing up little kittens sometimes can be very heart breaking as you might loose the most cutest one out of them all because she wasnt strong enough and couldnt feed due to its siblings or the mother doesnt want to feed or have anything to do with them,

but in the end it all comes down to why you want to breed bengals.

i want to breed them as i love them, like ive said on here before its my first time owning a bengal but its not the first time ive been around one. i know how much of a handful they can get especially if there a cheeky cat! even when they dont breed they can be a handful and you need alot of space for them which is perfect for me as i am in the middle of making a room for them which i can also have as a little hospital.

the only reason i want to breed them is that i want to continue the nice blood line of a cat which to me she looks stunning and im in the middle of trying to find the right stud for her to mate with as i dont want her to have any old kitten i want to try and create the best looking kittens.

Bengals are not an easy cat to breed. You need to definitely get her scanned for HCM before you start. Has her parents been scanned. The stud you decide to use should also be scanned and be from scanned parents too. Look at the scan reports, do not just take anyone's word for it.

Scanning is done before breeding at roughly one year of age, it requires to be done yearly while the cat is being used for breeding. HCM is a progressive disease, a negative scan (echocardiogram) doesn't mean that the cat doesn't have the disease, it just may mean it is not yet showing signs of it. A positive scan however does identify HCM cats and those should not be bred from. It is a dominant gene so siblings and progeny of a positive cat have a 50% chance of also being positive and one of the parents will have the gene too.
As a good breeder it is necessary to identify animals with the disease as early as possible, because a cat with the HCM gene will pass it on to at least half of its offspring. HCM is not a nice disease, it kills young cats and anything that can be done to prevent must be a good thing.

An HCM cat may show no physical signs of disease until it drops down dead or goes into heart failure, so just assuming a cat is healthy without performing a scan, is no guarantee. An echocardigram is the only tool we have at present to identify cats with the disease.
