I just bought them some chicken legs to give them tonight and can't wait to see/hear their reactions! Should I expect them to eat the bones too? The entire bone??

When Oska 1st had them he left quite a bit of meat on the bone, but now he strips it clean and crunches on the bone, but there's usally some left.

I think you need to convince you boyfriend it's Ok, honestly what's the vet thinking of, if they were outside and they caught a bird they don't cook it first

Oska has been having raw chicken since we got him and it has given him a nice glossy coat, are other kitten Harvey (maine coon) has been having raw chicken since he ws on solids as his breeder gave it to all the kittens as a treat and because it's good for their teeth. something she wouldn't do if it harmed them.

Plus you will find on here quite a few people give their cats a completely raw meat diet.

Well my vet told me raw chicken especially on the bone is better than cooked chicken.
I've been feeding it to my cats now for 7 years and have never had a problem...it's good for them.
The only thing I advice is don't leave old meat hanging around. throw away any left overs.

I agree with you guys...it makes sense to me that they would catch food in the wild and then eat it raw, but this vet said that these cats are now domesticated and their stomachs are not able to handle it. She said she knows some vets believe in raw diets but she does not. I would like to give it to them,...if you all give it to your babies and they enjoy it and are ok, Im sure my boys would be ok too....But I guess we are both their "parents" and have to make this decision together....

i've always put all raw meats in the freezer first and then defrosted it before feeding it to my cats/kittens.

Mine love raw turkey mince too...the kittens go crazy for it

I gave Olly some cooked prawns today. WOW!!! Didn't just bring out the wildness in him, I saw the devil in him ! LOL! He LOVED them. With one smell he was a mad cat... running around with it looking for a safe place to eat it. I never heard him make some of the sounds he was making before. Now that he is done eatting he is running around the house like a bat out of hell. lol.

Jaime perhaps you could give them prawns, as they are cooked your boyfriend shouldn't be able to complain about that.

I heard a vet on a live show this morning say that you should never give raw chicken to an animal because the bones splinter and can get stuck in their throats...now i know we've had some for and some against this on the forum, but what is the truth?
I mean, in the wild, cats will catch anything and that could include a chicken if he/she is lucky! Or a bird, frog, vole etc.

Are some vets simply against raw meat totally?

I don't mind trying anything new for my cats. They love strips of raw chicken breast or beef, prawns, raw or cooked. I haven't tried the whole raw leg 'thing' yet though!

Tameeria, i'm surprised your cats didn't go for the prawns, but if they like salmon, that's a treat in itself. My cats won't touch salmon or any food with it in. Fussy so-and-so's!

I put down chicken liver (raw and cooked) and only one of my cats showed a slight interest. I guess it just comes down to personal feline preference, with trial and error on our part, too?
At least liver is cheap so it's not too much money wasted if they don't like it.
