All Summers babies are eating raw food im so happy thank you all for your advice they eat the raw and alittle dry but wont touch the pouches, two of the new owners will feed raw so thats fantastic but the other one isnt so keen i do understand but if he wont eat pouches it has to be raw.

From an owners point of view I think (even though it is the better diet) it would put me off buying a kitten if I though it may only eat raw. It's not to everyones liking having raw chicken being dragged around the carpets/floor. It's also not easy to get hold of pre-packaged raw in some areas (like the stuff Ginny uses for D &the Mogs).

The worry is will the owners you have that say 'yes raw is Ok' maybe just think that they can give pouches. Not everyone knows that you should introduce foods slowly. I didn't realise at first, got away with it with Indy and had learnt better by the time I got Obi.

I think it's great that you feed them raw don't get me wrong I just worry what might happen with the owners.

The new owners are fine about raw and we have explained very carefully to introduce new food very slowly, i have tried to get them to eat pouches if you read the thread from the begining but they wont and they must eat.

It sounds like you will have a good relationship with the new owners witch I think is great.

It's funny how fussy bengals can be, even as kittens. I know as a breeder your still learning. Do you think with another litter you will stick to raw or try pouches next time? Would it be easier to sell a kitten if it was on a more standard food (mind you I bet you have no trouble with Summer's babies as they are beautiful)?

I must admit that when I took on my first Bengal, I wouldn't have had a clue about raw feeding and might have thought twice if that's all the kitten would eat. Now I'm more experienced and I know what to do so it wouldn't put me off, although I've made sure mine will eat some commercial food too for the times when someone else has to look after them.

Is the vet right about the risk of worms Julie - I thought that was a bit of a myth provided the raw food was good quality.

for me variety is the key. i like to get them used to all different things so that the new owners have a choice. i also think it helps to prevent fussy eaters if they are used to variety from the beginning.
the biscuit brand remains constant but i rotate raw, cooked & prepacked wet foods.
my health & diet care sheet is also quite comprehensive, including links for where to get hold of any of the items & how to go about introducing new foods if required.
(touch wood) no problem with worms yet, i worm at 8 & 12 weeks & recommend every 3 months thereafter.

Thank you Ren & Ginny i do offer all 3 types of food, my new owner are told everything they need to know from me about diet, i was only asking about worms really, now im feeling bad they wont eat pouches i do try though everyday
