Usually, manufacturers have foods for specific age groups. Kittens do require more protein. Does that mean you have to only feed kitten food to kittens? No! You can feed an indoor formula to outdoor cats, etc. The nutritional contents may not vary too much. However, is a 9 year old cat a senior? That means my bengal who will turn 11 next month is a real senior and I simply feed him adult cat food. More important is that your cat eat the food that you feed the cat -- more than the type of food. Adult food or senior food would have the proper protein amounts for you baby. But, I do know a cat rescuer who feeds her older/sick cats kitten food.
