I have a 7 month male kitten (Neko) I have had him since Easter. He has settled in well within the household although very nervy of noises and guests, won't even venture in the garden. He was brought up on wet food, in particular Morrisons own and Felix!!!!!!!! His previous owner said that he had been a very picky eater. He is on Felix at present and quite happy, but it gives him lose bowls and wind,I don't want him on these processed foods. We have another kitten (Tika) she is 10 weeks old and they are at present great friends.
I am trying to get him and her onto raw or cooked meat, anything but what they are eating at present. He would sooner starve himself than eat anything else. She copies him!!

loose bowel movements and gas...It could be a parasite in the kitty's tummy.

Definitely a vet visit is in order just to double check things (bring current stool sample). If the kitten was on Felix with the breeder, it should be fine for the kitty now. Going raw is fine if that is what you want to do. Read the topic on raw feeding. Many find it easy and you can find raw at the pet store (refrigerated or frozen, I'm sure). You just want to make sure it's a complete diet with the heart, liver and bones for calcium. You can purchase vitamin supplements for your cat. You can give it a try and see if it helps. You really want to give your kitty food that they will enjoy and eat.

Thank you for your comments, they are really helpful. I have spent some time reading other articles on the forum and found comments in those helpful also. A few weeks ago I took Neko to the vets for a full examination and the vet suggested we give him a flea and parasite treatment as his previous owners hadn't done any of that. The last day or so the wind and loose motions have started to calm down, so your comment regarding parasite may be the answer. Also from other comments I realise that it isn't important to feed him raw meat, it is more important that he enjoys his meals, so as he likes Felix I am going to keep in on that. Mine both eat Felix and are perfectly healthy, Magic my boy has been on it since I had him 4 years ago, I tried to change him to other foods including raw and he wouldn't even look at it, so of course Pearl my 6 month old girl is exactly the same.
I don't bother trying now, instead I make sure they have good quality dry left down plus they have some cooked turkey every day, Magic likes encore 75% tuna aswell.

Thank you Claire and magic, that really does put my mind at rest!

I feed both of my two Felix, because that is what the breeder was giving them, and they are both fine! I also give them raw mince and dry food as well, to try and mix it up a bit for them, but they are more than happy with the Felix. I tried changing it once before and they were having none of it anyway!

Yes Felix here with us too as it's what the Cat Protection League had them on. They've been checked out and don't have parasitic infections but one of them did have a bit of loose stools for a while and I was wondering if it was the food. They are now both 8 months old and it has cleared up. I guess it can sometimes be an immature system and some kittens are more sensitive than others but you did right to get it checked out.

I was pondering once they go onto adult food whether to change to a decent brand but they do like Felix and I always provide a high quality dry so might just stick with that for now. I'm sure at some point they will eventually get fed up of Felix and then I'll have an excuse to make the change.
