Hello everyone! Lila is now 7 months old and is doing fantastic. We had some stinky/running poo issues a couple months back that resulted in me removing her from wet food altogether and keeping her on dry (Blue buffalo Grain free) I tried slowly integrating wet food back into her diet to see if it was a specific flavor that gave her issues - turns out it was all flavors except for chicken occasionally. I have tried friskies, fancy feast, blue buffalo and Natures Variety. Does anyone have any suggestions for a wet food I can try that would not upset her poor stomach? The poo and gas is REALLY bad. Like you know the second she uses her litter box when you are across the house and if she farts around you, you end up looking for poop. Please also keep in mind cost. I would love to feed her raw but do not have the time to make it myself nor the money to purchase it consistently. Thank you in advance!

My guess is that you're actually dealing with a parasite instead of a food allergy. I think you should at least get your cat checked for parasites before going too far down the food route. Check out this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3876

Food allergies often have other symptoms like itching/scratching/tearing out hair, and aren't usually accompanied by the really strong awful smell like TF or giardia. True, changing diet may improve things and give temporary relief, but if it's a parasite you should try to deal with the underlying issue.

I have to agree with Brian. That being said...Evangers makes a good 100% rabbit and 100% buffalo wet food that my kitten loves.

I agree with Brian – do get her checked out just to be sure. Collect a faecal sample and take it to the vet to get tested as well as having her looked over.

Having said that, bengals are known to have sensitive stomachs. Not only that, but foods such as friskies, whiskas and especially Fancy Feast are TERRIBLE. You are basically feeding your cat a feline version of McDonalds. Even worse. These foods are not good for any cat and will make their poo smell horrid.

A lot of people say that feeding a raw diet really helps with the bad poo smell. I stand by this. I was feeding my boy on higher quality canned food, but his poo still smelled quite strong. After moving to an all raw diet of chicken, beef and lamb, it no longer smells so bad.

It can take a while to find what works with your cat, but I really do recommend trying a raw diet, if there is nothing medically wrong with her. It is not only much healthier for them as they get all the nutrients they need without the added nasties, but also won’t make you hold your nose every time you clean the litterbox.

Good luck!

My first thoughts too that it was a parasitic problem.

My Bengal Dexter had both TF and tummy problems with food.

Once the TF cleared up our specialist vet recommended that he was first fed on one protein only (we used grilled lamb steaks grounded down). His poop improved over a few days until it was completely normal. After this she suggested we try Eukanuba (a wet cat food as he wouldn't touch dry), which is for skin allergies but also work well for cats with sensitive tums. It incorporates novel single protein of Lamb.

Unfortunately we never got to try it on Dexter as he developed FIP.

Hello everyone. My apologies, I should have stated that she has been to the vet - several times due to spacing out shots - and I have taken a poo sample each time due to this issue. Nothing has ever been found. On the other side of this I am switching vet currently. Lila has an appt tomorrow and I will be taking a poo sample then as well just to be sure.
As I said previously I would love to feed raw but I don't have the time or money to be able to at this point. So I am looking for something that may be raw comparable in quality but more wallet friendly.
Regarding food allergies...I did not even connect these until now but lila has been itching alot. I keep checking her for fleas but she is on a flea med so I was rather confused. I will check with the vet on this tomorrow as well.

Let us know what the new vet says. I'm interested to see if they think of anything else!

Hendrix had runny poo and it stank as well. I took him to the vet and he said to feed dry only, did your girl improve when on dry only? I never managed to go dry only, I'd have had a riot on my hands.

If you can get it where you are, royal canin sensible has been really good for hendrix's tummy, made an instant improvement. But then the issue returned and there was also blood in his poo which is when I took him to the vet.

Turned out he'd been stealing loads of Jagger's dry food recently hence the problem had come back and steadily got worse as there was something in there he couldn't tolerate. Now I have sure feeders, he can't get to Jagger's dry food and he is much, much better. I also give him a daily probiotic as well, and his fur has improved and is much silkier.

Hendrix does still get wet food as well but I'm UK so not sure I can help on that. But they both only have chicken or turkey, they don't like anything else or if they do, it doesn't agree with them.

Good luck at your new vet and I hope you sort out what the issue is whether food or parasite, not nice for anyone or your girl!

Your vet may not have the capability to test for TF. Hopefully, that's not the problem. Parasites are quite common and vets can test for several different ones. There are wet foods for sensitive stomachs -- you just have to search! I think that is going to be your key if your kitty has no other problems. You might consider giving her a probiotic with her food. There are many specifically formulated for felines. It is helping my bengal who has a tendency for loose stools.

I am pretty sure it is the food as she has only been nawing at herself for the last week and a half or so (started this other blue wilderness 2 weeks ago) and she has been on the same monthly flea meds since I picked her up from the breeder.
I did take a stool sample into the vet with her today and am waiting on the results but the vet agreed it sounds like a food allergy. I didn't initially realize the blue buffalo I grabbed had grain, the previous blue buffalo I had her on is grain free and we had no problems when she was solely on it (it is a dry food). I traded the food out and got the original grain free kid again and also grabbed a couple small cans of the grain free wet food. We shall swe how she does.
In other news though, her appt today was for her spay amd microchip. All was good but just as I was about to leave to pick her up the vet called and said she had a fever and wanted to keep her over night. I am very worried about my little girl. Poor thing looked heartbroken when i left the vet without her this morning. Really hoping it was just the stress of the prolonged vet visit and surgery. She didn't need any vaccines so I am not sure what else it could be.

Poor baby. Happy the spay went well and now she will have a week or two of recovery. Your vet should be able to test for allergies, too. I don't know how common grain allergies are on cats, but the b/w I feed has been having really runny eyes until I put him on a grain free diet and they are a lot better.

Lila is back home amd though a little slower than usual (which is actually a blessing) she is doing good. Vet said the poo tests came back negative and to let her know if we still have issues after a week or so with the food change. So glad my girl is home where I can keep am eye on her. Thank you everyone.
I will keep you all updated with my progress on the food issue. I haven't given her any of the trial wet food yet. I didn't think it prudent just in case it upsets her tummy and she has to strain going potty.

Lila has been through a lot, so right now she just needs to take it easy and recover. Hopefully a new food will help her sensitive tummy.
