I just got a 5 month old Bengal Siamese Mix on Thursday.
Her previous owner was only giving her cooked chicken and a vitamin paste.
I found what I believe to be a great raw food recipe!

Raw chicken, pure pumpkin for fiber, and then a pure baby food veggie (squash, carrots, etc) for added nutrition and to mimick what could be in a preys stomach.

Sabi LOVES the raw chicken. I believe this is because she was only given chicken.
I can not get her to even try to eat the pumpkin or squash.
I'm trying to introduce them one by one so when I do mix a batch I don't have any to waste.


Does anyone have any opinions on how I can get her to start eating some of the other options??
She's so picky she won't even eat if that's the only thing I put out.
Even cooked chicken or raw chicken with only a little pumpkin added just to get her familiarized with it.

I don't feed pumpkin or any other veggie in our raw mix. It is unnecessary.
When cats eat wild prey, they leave the stomach and intestines. They don't eat the contents.
Pumpkin is sometimes added if a cat has loose stools but a cat on a raw diet with loose stools has a bigger problem.

For a good proportion of ingredients in a raw diet try the Facebook Cat crap (cats completely raw and proud) group.

The raw diet is not very difficult but you need to find the protein your cat likes.

In pre-made varieties, Quasar likes duck, hates pre-made chicken, and thinks venison is "okay".

With our homemade blend, he eats chicken gizzards and hearts mixed with crushed eggshell and a sprinkle of taurine powder,

He also gets tidbits of whatever meat we are cooking for ourselves.

I tried adding sweet potato to one of my cat's raw food for a while, I think at the time he had blood in his stool and I read online it might help. Anyway, he never, ever touched it and I eventually stopped bothering. It is very difficult to make a cat eat something it does not want to eat.

In my experience, cats DO often eat the stomach contents of their prey, as well as feathers, fur, feet, etc...what significance this has to their nutrition I don't know; but really I can't imagine a bit of pumpkin accurately mimics what a cat gets from eating the partially digested contents of their prey's stomach anyway. I feed an all meat raw mix myself.

Trying to get a cat to eat what a cat doesn't want to eat is not going to work. Stick with the foods your kitty enjoys. That way your kitty will eat until its full. The key when feeding a cat a non-manufactured cat food is to make sure the kitty gets all the nutrients a kitty requires. That can mean adding a supplement. If feeding a cat an entire chicken with the bones, liver and heart, that usually gives them what they need. I don't know that you need to add pumpkin or any other vegetable to the diet, unless the cat needs more fiber.

A cooked chicken breast is not going to fulfill the nutritional needs of your kitty! Note the previous owner was also giving a vitamin paste! I don't know how much nutritional value is lost if you cook up the gizzards. Whole chickens used to come with the gizzards, heart and liver. I never ate them personally, but my father enjoyed them. The key nutrient for a cat is taurine, which can be found in the heart and liver of a chicken. Cats also need calcium which is found in chicken bones. I suggest you spend some time with Google and research as much information as you can. You might also ask your vet about giving your kitty a probiotic. Raiden gets one daily and it has definitely helped his loose stools.

A balanced raw diet is completely different to breast meat. Taurine is essential for cats, especially for their vision. A lack of calcium is probably why your cat has loose stools. A balanced raw diet needs to include at least 5% liver and/or another 5% secreting organ (brain, testicle, kidney etc) as well as 10-15% bone and 75-80% meat. The only supplements you should really need are water/eggs (whole) oily fish and maybe dried crushed eggshell in place of bone.
