I might be a little early to jump the gun on this one. I was feeding babies Luna (3 months and a bit @ 1.7kg) and Hunter (just under 3 months @ 1.2kg) Primal freeze dried turkey (http://www.primalpetfoods.com/product/detail/c/14/id/57). My little guy eats everything (was recently on urinary SO food, hence the lack of weight), but Luna is more nonchalant about it.

I live in Canada, and with the Avian outbreak a couple months ago in the USA, there was a ban on all poultry coming into Canada. Not knowing this, I went to my pet store and they had no more of my Primal turkey. So the employee, who is usually great with info and recommendations, said if I gave them an instant switch to frozen raw, it would be no problem at all. It was nearing their meal time, so I was somewhat anxious to get them fed soon, and made the decision on a whim to go with it (I am currently sulking in regret).

I mixed the tiny bit of freeze dried raw I had left with the frozen raw, about 10:90, respectively. Hunter ate away at most of it, Luna only half. They seemed great, played a bit, then slept.

I woke up this morning to find puke and poop (some solid, some diarrhea) all over my litter track mats <- GOD BLESS THESE. There was enough and puke and poop that I knew both of them had expelled some. The one thing I can say was good, was that some of the poop was solid, which seems to be a problem for both my babies.

Which finally leads me to this morning, obviously I'm not going to feed them what I fed last night, and the pet store miraculously got stock of the Primal Turkey this morning. I'm about 2 hours past their usual breakfast time now. I mix the Primal Turkey with the frozen turkey, portioned about 90:10, respectively. Hunter as usual, went at the food, eating most of it. Luna didn't touch the food. So I whipped up some plain freeze dried turkey as would be her normal diet, and nothing. Kibbles, still nothing.

So my question is... Should I wait for her to get hungry enough to eat her usual food? Or should I get something else right away? She was acting super chill and quiet, probably traumatized from never having puked before, but now they are playing as usual (2 hours after I tried to feed her)

Ok, so several comments:

1. I try to avoid this type of situation by having multiple things to feed my cats that they like, so that if something happens and one food is unavailable, there is always 3 or 4 other things I can give them.

2. If something smells off to a cat, in general, you can't really count on the fact that "they will eat it when they get hungry enough", because their senses may be screaming at them that this is dangerous or just plain not edible, in which case they won't ever eat it.

That said, with all the traumatic stuff going on, with their zooking and having messed up digestive system and all that, I would probably give them a snack or something (like some sort of human-grade meat if you have it) and try their regular food again at dinner. Now if at dinner he still is "off" of that food, then I think you may have to start searching for a short-term (or even long-term substitute). Sometimes cats just inexplicably go off of a food that they previously loved. Maybe in this case they will associate it with having an upset stomach and decide that eating it is a bad idea from here on out.

Thanks for the replies! I tried heating Luna's regular food with no prevail. Hunter is still eating well.

I completely forgot I had leftover cans of her old food, Purina Pro Plan kitten, and gave her half a can of that, mixed with some of her regular food. She ate most of that luckily :) The reason why I stopped feeding her this was because it gave her diarrhea...

Weirdly neither of them have touched their regular kibble though? Usually they pick at it between meals... I could just be over analyzing though

Obviously, the new "diet" didn't sit well with your kitties! And when cats vomit, it hurts and they know the food caused it, so they are hesitant to eat again because of the fear of the same type of pain! You've learned your lesson. Transition extremely slowly and a lot of cats don't switch to raw, period. Mine will not eat it!!!

That being said, your kitty must eat. If a cat goes 48 hours without eating, it can cause liver damage:

Thanks Sherry! She is actually eating great now, and has been since lunch yesterday, with a mixture of 50:40:10, ProPlan, Primal freeze-dried turkey, and frozen raw turkey, respectively :)

I will slowly start phasing out the ProPlan to the Primal turkey, then to slowly to the frozen turkey. I am honestly amazed that both my kitties have practically solid poop!

Glad to hear things are going great right now! I always worry myself to death when Raiden stops eating and isn't feeling well. I have some special high-calorie food that I can syringe in him -- AFTER I take him to the vet to be checked out.
