Hey guys,

My kitty Zara doesn't want anything to do with her water bowl, she only wants it out of my glass or sometimes the tap.

I'm wondering if you guys have a fountain that you have used and liked in the past. From what I have read, they can be a little cumbersome to clean but the cats really like them.

I have been looking at the Drinkwell Platinum, and it seems to be a very popular choice among bengal owners.

Any recommendations?

Ahh that would be great! I want to get one as soon as possible.

Did you get the ceramic avalon or ceramic pagoda? One is square and the other is circular.

The one I got is round, but I'm sure they are both fine.

Brian, why are fountains with plastic bases bad?

I bought the Pioneer raindrop stainless steel fountain for Raiden for his enclosure. He never drank out of it, so now it's in the cupboard. It requires a filter and cleaning was easy and filter replacement was a breeze. I have heard plastic is not good for cat bowls. I use stainless steel for Raiden's food and water bowls in his Neater Feeder. Perhaps plastic harbors bacteria more than ceramic or stainless steel or it's the same reason we aren't supposed to drink water out of plastic. You could Google and see what the pros say.

I have a couple of plastic fountains and I am suspicious they could be causing Grace's chin itching? She itched it so bad yesterday that it swelled into a mass under her chin. It felt normal this morning. I just can't figure out what is making them itch! They both itch all the time. Now i think it's the water bowl, lol.

Jill, I agree with you assessment of the chin itching! When I first stated feeding a stray and posted pictures of him eating, I got, "you do not feed cats in plastic bowls." So, I immediately switched to ceramic and stainless steel. I think Vern was asking a similar question when one of his kittens started getting bumps on their chin. We recommended switching the bowls and it appeared to work. The pioneer fountain would be easy for cats to get apart and knock over, so I wouldn't recommend it for yours, Jill.

Well I also use a glass bowl but I only see Blondie drinking out of that bowl. Grace seems to drink from the plastic fountains and her itching is much worse than Blondie's. I am going to remove the plastic fountains tonight and put water in glass and stainless bowls only and see if that makes a difference.

Jill, if you discover switching helps the itching, then you'll know the plastic was the culprit! I've got a cupboard full of plastic cat feeders -- and I should just toss them out as I don't use them and nobody else should either. I bought the Neater Feeder for Raiden and purchased extra stainless steel bowls for it and that's what I use. I put some dry food out in a ceramic bowl for him and have had no issues at all.

I trashed the plastic fountains last night and they are using only glass and stainless now. Good to know!

Hope Gracie and Blondie will be happier!!! Pet stores are full of plastic items. Humans aren't supposed to drink water out of plastic either.
