How much should I be feeding daily?

Hello Everyone,

I am starting my kitten on a raw diet consisting of the following recipe from my breeder:

Here is the home made cat food formula which we use:
1. Six pounds of chicken thighs with bones
2. 1/2 pound of chicken livers
3. Five heaping tablespoons of unsweetened pumpkin
4. Ten quick squirts of salmon oil
5. 1 3/4 cup of water
6. Kitty Bloom VM900 +3. We add two tablespoons of this to the six Pounds of chicken mixture.
7. Mix thoroughly and freeze

My question is, how many ounces of this mixture should I be giving my kitten each day?
I am looking to order freezer containers, and not sure what size(s) to get!

Your kitty should decide how much is enough. You should be able to refrigerate enough for a couple of days (6 meals) and that should give you an indication of how much your kitten will eat. Kittens should basically be allowed to eat as much as they want. Someone was giving their kitty 1 tablespoon of food three times a day and she said she could hear her cat's tummy growling. I've never had a kitten, so I really don't know. Start with a tablespoon and see how she does. If Jax is still hungry, give her a little more. She will walk away when she is full. It's easier when people feed canned food as you can tell what 3 oz can looks like. You're going the raw route. Feed her at least three times a day. Right now you can freeze 90% of the mixture and keep some in the fridge and just see how much she eats in 24 hours. She will require larger portions as she continues to grow. I'd probably try to freeze a day or two's portion in freezer bags. They will lay flatter in the freezer. Your first batch is going to be iffy! By the time you have to make up more, you should better understand what her needs are going to be.

Quasar would eat 10-12 oz raw food a day as a kit. Now he eats between 6 and 8 oz. Sometimes less than 6. Sometimes more than 8. He gets as much as he wants. He is lean, muscular, and athletic.

Sherry, thank you for the advice. I went to 9 stores yesterday in search of a grinder, and had no success! Cannot believe how difficult it is to find one! I will be ordering one online today.

Would you happen to know how long food can be in the fridge for without going bad?
I've decided I am going to make individual serving size portions, so I can simply open the container, and empty it into Jax's bowl.
So I am just wondering how many days worth of food I can unfreeze and keep refrigerated at once?

I would say no more than 3 days, tops, in the refrigerator. They recommend all cooked leftovers be eaten within 3 days and even though you are feeding raw, I think 3 days' supply would be adequate and then you just pull out more from the freezer. Have no fear, you'll get this down pat eventually!

I only keep food out 1 or 2 days. If it starts to turn at all, he won't eat it. If it smells bad, I feed it to the dog.
