I've been so confused as to what to feed Sheena. The breeder had the kittens on Purina One dry and Friskies wet. I've been trying to get her on a better food but she has a sensitive stomach. I think I've finally found something. I stumbled across Newman's Own Organics Grain Free on the Internet and I had my pet store order it for me. It's organic and grain free. (The premium line is not grain free.) I also got the dry food (also not grain free.) I will be feeding more wet than dry, so I'm not concerned about the little grain they will be eating with the dry. My both cats love them. And Sheena hasn't vomited. I just thought I'd share and see if anyone else has tried this food. I feel good about feeding them organic food.

My $0.02: It looks pretty decent to me. For the canned food, your eyes and your nose will tell you a lot about how good the ingredients are, but the ingredients look ok on paper. The dry food to me looks like it may have a little less meat, and perhaps a little lower quality meat than something like blue wilderness, but it's still decent. If your cat really enjoys it and tolerates it well, that is a big deal, so congrats on finding a good food.

P.S. I wouldn't focus on the "grain-free-ness" of a food. From what I've read, a food that has, say, potatoes or carrots or whatnot for "filler" isn't any better for a cat than one that has rice or corn etc. I think the more important thing is: how much meat does it have, and does it have a bunch of crappier meat (by-products or "meat meals") vs higher quality meat (chicken, turkey etc).

As long as your kitty eats and keeps the food down -- that's what really matters. I've bought that food for Raiden and he turns his nose up at it. I continually try new foods on him -- and the raccoons usually get to enjoy them at the end of the week as I put all the leftovers into a container and dump it out for them. Someone might as well enjoy the food -- the expensive stuff!

Just happy that you have found something that is working for Sheena.

They both seem to love this food. And she's keeping it down. About the grain-free debate......in the wild, cats devour rodents and birds who live on grains. So, I don't get how grains can be bad for a cat. Isn't it part of their original diet??

Usually cats do not ingest the stomach of their prey! I'm sure some do and don't know that the "grain" is such a big part of a bird or rodent at that point. Don't worry about it so much. Your cats now eat and no more vomiting ... so things have greatly improved.

My cat that hunts certainly eats the prey's stomach and contents. He literally eats everything: fur/feathers, skull, feet...they don't exactly have a knife and fork to divide it up

Oscar always leaves the intestines.........usually in a little heap where I can stand on it in bare feet - Yuck! Sounds fabulous what Brian says about eating bacon!!!!!! Think it should become one of your 'five a day'
