Hi everyone! Onyx is a 5.5 year old retired queen. We have had her for two weeks.

As of about a week ago, she has begun vomiting... a lot. She has vomited three times today alone. At first it was a lot of food, but now it is mostly liquid.

After a week she ran out of food from the breeder. The breeder told me it was Go! daily defense mixed with Go! kitten. She said I could buy Go! fit and free instead because it is grain free but Go! daily defense isn't. That is exactly what I did. I mixed the fit and free with the breeder mix and Onyx was fine.

But I ran out of breeder food, and when I just gave her the daily defense on its own, that is when the vomiting started. I have stopped all other sources of food to see if that was the problem, but it has not helped. I just went to the pet store and bought go! daily defense again and removed all fit and free, and she immediately vomited just now with that.

Additional info: no blood in her vomiting, she still eats and drinks, she is not lethargic and is quite active. She loves cuddles and her behaviour is normal. She cries when she vomits and her whole body spasms.

I would appreciate any help before visiting a vet. I am open to switching pet food brands if you guys think that is the problem, though this is what she has used before with no issues.

Thanks in advance!

It could be anything from diet, upset stomach to more serious issues or even poisoning.

I would take her to a vet.

Hi. Thanks for your thoughts. I'll have to take her when the vet is open then.

Further info, she has not lost any weight, or her appetite. I have her on bland chicken right now and things are much better. But after fasting during the night, my husband gave her too much in the morning so she vomited that back up. Now I am giving her tiny pieces at a time and she acts like she is starving (gives me little mememe-me-mew!! noises while looking for food from me). She is still quite active and happy, except right after she vomits (which makes sense, no one likes to vomit).

It's odd that she doesn't have so many of the concerning medical symptoms I read about online... she is acting the same, just can't hold down food.

Also... she is a completely indoor cat. I put out extra water bowls last night, just in case, and she has been drinking a ton.

I have a friend going through something similar with her moggie. She just got done at the vet and they did x-rays (nothing found) and gave her an anti-nausea injection plus a can of prescription wet food to try. The vet said if she vomits again today she needs to come back immediately so they can run more tests on her.

Taking her in to the vet is the best idea, just to make sure that there isn't something serious going on with her.

Happy update. I was at school all day so I left her chicken breast to eat and there was no vomit. I mixed some boiled potatoes and have been feeding her this since. No problems. :) I am slowly introducing her kibbles back in with no problems. I think she just wasn't transitioned into this new food well enough. Will take her to the vet if she vomits again.

It appears a little odd to me that you've had issues with commercial cat food, but had more success with chicken (albeit with potato) and are slowly working in commercial cat food again?

Glad your baby is okay now. I know when I first got Raiden and put him on wet food, he vomited a lot. Then I was told by the previous owner that Raiden was fed only dry food, so I figured it was the drastic change in the diet. After a couple of weeks, Raiden was fine and hasn't vomited anything in a couple of years now.

Thanks Sherry!

Unfortunately she started vomiting again... so we took her to the vet and they think it could be hairballs. There is no obstructions and she doesn't "seem" sick they said. She just vomits up to 6 times per day and her feces is like diarrhea (moist and very stinky, with hair in it). I hope she passes the hairball soon! They told us to put her back on the Go! food.

Have they done a fecal for any parasites?

She also could be eating too much, too fast. i would try giving her small portions every couple hours.

I forgot to mention, the product the vet gave us is "Laxatone", for hairballs. I have no problem giving it to her, she lets me put it straight in her mouth or on the back of her paw.
