i've been feeding my cat leonardo chicken soup for the cat lovers soul for the past 4 years

i've been using it based on the breeders recommendation but if there's anything better out there for bengals i'd like to know about it :)

i've also slipped him some chicken/turkey from time to time whenever i get sandwiches and i've got a pack of "gourmet" packet food of some sort i give to him on occasion but i find he only eats the liquid bits of it and leaves the meat chunks for some reason

We feed our 2 bengals applaws cat biscuits - http://www.applaws.co.uk/cat_dry.php - 80% meat biscuits. Plus any bits of chicken, fish we may have as treats.

I grind chicken hearts, gizzards, and a little bit of organ meat (liver mostly) along with about 1/8 tsp of pulverized eggshell as routine diet. He also gets treats of chicken necks and chunked up gizzard or other meats we may be preparing for our own consumption. This is all raw, of course.

My 2 get Orijen biscuits, with the occasional pouch of food as a treat.

I had problems, mostly with Babbage, for months when he first came to me with diarrhoea and after some time on Orijen that has cleared up nicely.

I'm using GranataPet dry food...and a couple of times a week I feed her with wet food like Smilla, Almo Nature etc....
I used orijen too (She was used with that when I've got her) but are too expensive.
I pay much attention about cereals and other craps......

Cats are obligate carnivores. A raw meat diet is the closest to a natural diet you can give your cat. It is safe for cats, provided you use fresh meat and hygienic processing technique. A cat's digestive tract is relatively short, so that the meat is in the gut for a pretty short period of time. Cats are tolerant to the bacteria in meat. Freezing the meat thoroughly and thawing no more than 1 or 2 days' worth of meat at a time will keep potentially harmful bacteria to a minimum.

Many people feed cats on a totally raw diet. Quasar is the healthiest cat I have ever had. He is lean, has a beautiful and shiny coat and (bonus) his poop does not smell at all.

FYI this is the first pet to whom I have fed a raw diet. When my breeder told me she fed raw, my first reaction was much like yours. All I could imagine was a cat with food poisoning, choking on bones. I investigated the topic and discussed it with the breeder. After feeding a totally raw diet and seeing the results, I wish I had known about it a long time ago.

For more information, check out the sticky in this section on raw feeding. There is also a Facebook group called Cat CRAP (completely raw and proud) where you can get a lot of information about raw feeding.

Great cat foods you got there! I got some ideas, thank you!

But how about food that are not allowed to be eaten by cats.. like dogs not eating chocolates..

Is there such a thing?

+1 to Kyenta's post.

We went from Hills Science plan dry onto raw food with our four Bengals.

You can get ready made mixes, or make your own. If you're interested in ready made, there are a few companies that can cater to you. Personally we have experience with Natures Menu, widely available from pet shops in their freezers, and Natural instinct, not as easy to get hold of, but many think their product is superior over the former.

We now make our own and all four love it, they can't wait for meal times.

A common misunderstanding is that cats shouldn't eat bones. Cats are more than capable with bones, but you should only go with UNCOOKED bones. Cooked bones harden and splinter and can cause nasty damage.

If you really want to get an idea for feeding raw without spending a fortune, try frozen mice or rats as a treat. Leave out to defrost, you may need to cut them in half, so your cats realise it's food, not a toy. If they take to them, you can try other options.
