I've been feeding my two 6 month old boys for about a month on raw stewing beef and chicken breast (and occasionally wings), mixed with a bit of lamb's liver and heart a couple of times a week (I have only just started to mix a bit of cod liver oil too).They have taken to it really well but I'm not sure whether they are getting all the nutrients that they need. I've read all the topics And links that Suki had put on, but it's blowing my mind. So I was hoping if someone with a bit more experience could point me in the right direction. I've not attempted to make my own raw food. Mine do get raw food, but I buy it, so that's just a disclaimer, but regardless I will try to help...

There used to be a woman here who was extremely gung-ho about raw feeding. If you look back a ways in the "nutrition" section, look back to 2012, there are a ton of posts in there, tons of discussion, and recipes. Here is one such thread (containing a recipe and some other misc advice).

I think maybe what you are missing is at a minimum calcium (bone) and taurine. But if it were me, I'd be trying to use a recipe that was well tried and used by lots of others, rather than trying to re-invent the wheel.

I also have a book called "Natural Nutrition For Cats" by Kymythy Schultz. The book is kind of a dreary read because the book is around 200 pages long, and for the first 100+ pages, she just brow-beats you over the head for being stupid enough not to raw feed . But finally at the end is the practical stuff where she describes what to shop for, and gives a bunch of simple to follow recipes. It's an inexpensive book, and they have a kindle edition of it, so you could have it and read the parts you care about in minutes:

That info I'm sure is SOMEWHERE in there in catinfo.org website, but I just tried, spent 15min there looking, and couldn't find it easily. Kind of like the book, I think that page is sadly, mostly about delivering a "beating" and less about the practical stuff

As Brian said, it may be easier to buy it pre-made. However, once you have a good recipe and the right quantities of the right ingredients, you may well be onto a slightly cheaper winner.

We have four Bengal boys and they started on natures menu raw food. It's ok, easy to portion as it's in a bag of cubes, and you can get it from pretty much any half decent pet shop or pet food supply chain store. The advantage here is you can buy one box of one flavor and see how you get on.

However, one of our boys started turning his nose up at natures menu, so we started looking for something else. We decided to go for natural instincts, the downside being it's hard to find in shops. We did however find a shop that stocked it, 20 miles away, so we got a tub of each to see how it went. Needless to say, they loved it, and they are still on it. It also works out slightly cheaper than natures menu per weight over a given time.

We also treat them to the odd rat on a weekend, and the three that will eat them are happy to do so, just one won't.
