My two seal Lynx Points are almost 9 months old and still on kitten food. I read that you should keep them on kitten food until they are a year old, but they are getting rather fat. I try to limit their portions but they come after my food right after finishing their dinner. They both have very large stomachs and are slowing down because of it I fear. They are very good climbers because they have nails, but they do not jump very much because of their weight. I can make them jump with the feather on the stick toy but after about 5 minutes they lie down and just watch. I am still waiting for that cat wheel to show up. I am hoping they run on that and trim down a little. They went from lean to fat in a month it seems like. They share a 5 oz can of wet food each day and split about a cup and a quarter of good quality dry food. I give them a treat of chicken liver every Sunday and grace eats the chicken neck (can the neck harm her in any way? She eats the bones and all). I keep waiting for another growth spurt, but their stomachs just seem to be growing. I can barely lift each of their carriers when we go to the vets.

I would definitely switch now. I think I switched at 4 months or so with my bengals, and Neytiri lasted all of about 2 weeks on kitten food before graduating to adult food (mostly out of necessity because she wanted to eat with the bengals). It doesn't sound like necessarily an excessive amount of food that you are feeding them, although switching to an adult formula and maybe reducing the dry food a bit might help.

I'm going through something similar with Gaga right now. The vet asked me to slim her down a bit. It's tough because I've been out of town much of the last 2 months, so I think all three have over-eaten during that time (and Gaga is definitely the most susceptible to that), so now we're getting back to a more normal routine and I'm cutting the dry food and snacks down quite a bit, and trying to ramp the exercise up.

That was a good article Brian. I'll order adult wet food in the future and try cutting their dry food back and see how that goes. My last cat only ate wet food and she was very thin. Her whole life she never over ate but she was an only child. Competition makes cats gobble down their food. I have never seen cats more obsessed with food than my two. The smaller one is in a panic when the plate hits the floor like it's a race. They still spin in circles in front of me as I walk to their feeding spot and leap up to help me put the plate down.
