Hi there this is probably a question that's been asked zillion times before! So apologies in advance for that.

I have a Lynx Snow Bengal kitten (around 13half weeks now) which I've had for exactly 7 days.

He was fed by the Breeder on Whiskas Kitten wet food and Royal Canin dry food. I'm not particularly happy to feed him Whiskas (although he loves it) and he isn't particularly keen on the Royal Canin.

I did a 'bit' of research and ordered Natures Menu wet food and Arden Grange dry food which I am waiting to be delivered.

I don't want to upset him tummy though so should I mix the two wet foods together for now or just completely change to Natures Menu? As I said he's not interested in the dry food so I'll replace this straight away.

Oh and he is really greedy. In a week he has really filled out and I could swear that he is bigger than last week! Is it ok to feed him as much as he wants as I don't want him to get fat!

Many thanks for any advice.

Debbie

I appreciate you giving me advice on my question today so allow me to return the favor. :) When I got my first cat the breeder had him on Friskies and Royal Canin. He loved the Friskies, but it gave him...shall we say, gas problems and issues with bowel movements. Anyway, it was obvious that it wasn't a good option so I purchased a new healthier wet food and mixed it with the old food for about 4 or 5 days increasing the ratio of new food to old food in the mix each day that way it wouldn't hurt his tummy. I had made the mistake of changing a cat's food before "cold turkey" and it definitely caused her digestive upset so I would really recommend a slow transition to the new food so you don't end up with an extra messy litter box to clean.

That is good advice. Take your time with the transition and make sure the kitten is really settled in with you and had a vet checkup before you start the switch. You don't want to potentially mask a health issue by changing foods. Good luck with your little one!

Well the change over hasn't quite happened yet and not sure what to do?

I'm still mixing his Kitten Whiskas with Natures Menu which is 70% meat content whereas Kitten Whiskas has only 4%.

Since doing this he has been eating less but gaining weight and has grown a lot. When he was on Kitten Whiskas he was eating constantly and never satisfied. He was also not gaining any weight.

Problem is I'm not sure what to do because I don't really think he enjoys Natures Menu and if I removed the Whiskas component there's a possibility he would refuse to eat it.

Are there any other quality brands of kitten (want kitten not adult cat) food that I could try? I'd like to find something he would enjoy so don't mind trying out various brands until I find one he likes as long as that won't upset his tum.

I'm based in the UK but can order from Zooplus who do a good range of quality food or Amazon uk.

Thank you.

Hi Debbie

My boys also started on whiskas with their breeder and we moved them on to james wellbeloved turkey and also wainwrights from pets at home for variety. They went off wainwrights so are now on purely, also from pets at home. As adults they still have james wellbeloved turkey and purely chicken, both of which have good meat contents.

They are quite finicky though and one week want james wellbeloved and leave the purely and vice versa so worth finding a couple of things he likes. Plus I have one boy who mainly eats dry, normally royal canin sensible as he had a delicate tummy when younger (which jagger won't touch) but he also liked Arden grange and they are currently loving meowing heads but not sure if they do kitten in meowing heads as that's a recent food they've started on.

They gradually decided they didn't like anything fish flavoured and are meat only now. I suspect dexter is still working out his likes and dislikes and it may take a while for you to find a food that suits, they like to keep you on your toes lol

Good luck!

This may be an utterly silly suggestion, but many companies do free samples of pet food, a quick search came up with www.freebiesiteuk.co.uk/pet-freebies/ might it be worth a look?

Well I ordered 2 different kids of kitten food, Grau and Animonda Carny.

He likes the Grau and absolutely loves the Carny so very relieved I seem to have found a good quality food that he enjoys. For now anyway you know what they're like!

From Zooplus...

Miamor kitten in poultry flavour is reasonably high in meat... Make sure it's the poultry flavour though.... This looks like Whiskas in jelly and so cats seem to like it!

Thanks will keep that one in mind if he goes off any of the other two!

Haven't quite worked out whether I'm saving or spending more money but imagine they cost more than Kitten Whiskas.

Saying that he seems to eat less but I think that's because they are more satisfying/filling.

I always think it's a good idea to have several foods and flavours in rotation in case one is discontinued etc... Helps prevent panic in that situation.

Zooplus have several foreign high meat content foods.
