My girl has recently put on some weight in her mid section. She's about two years old now and the season has finally changed from the winter to summer in earnest (it's pretty hot some days). I was wondering if there was a point that Bengals naturally gain weight in their development or not? How fast can cats gain weight from stress eating? One of my other posts outlines an idea I had very briefly (before it was rightfully canned by a few other members on this forum) but I don't see how a week and a half or two week's worth of food restriction could have caused her to start binge eating when I went back to leaving her food out. The weight gain has only been in the last week. I had her weighed at the vet literally 7 or 8 days ago and they said she was even under weight from the last time I had brought her in.

I just weighed her at the pet store today... she's up nearly an entire pound from when I took her to the vet two weeks ago. She's almost 6 pounds now where she was just over 5 pounds not long ago.

I don't think her belly is swollen. She doesn't nip or try to bite me when I pick her up by her mid section and she is no less lethargic than usual I don't think.

Today at the pet store I bought her some weight control food because I feel she may be over grazing (I leave the food out all the time).

Thoughts?

If you are concerned that she is over grazing, feed her set meals or only leave out one true serving a day and see how much she truly eats. I free feed all of mine and only one is overweight, I adopted him that way and he has lost a few pounds since I got him.

Remember that scales at different places are different so that could account for some of the difference in the vet vs. pet store weight. If there isn't a medical issue going on, I would search for the cat body types graphic and see where she is on the scale.

How old is she?

Might be a silly question but is she neutered?

Here's a good guide. How old is she, as she may be preparing for a growth spurt - At 6 pounds, if neutered, she sounds quite small.
If not neutered, has she been in call recently? That will affect her weight considerably.

I'm going to look into a lean chicken diet to supplement any dry and wet food I give her to reduce her calorie intake.

Over the last day or two I've been playing with her and feeding her wet food in place of the clicker training I do with her and I think she is taking to it well. She seems to relate the wet food treats and playing together well.
