Try not to panic!

Firstly, I would get him into a routine with his meals and stick to it. Don't feed him on demand, and make sure you are not over-feeding the wet food. So many kittens end up with diarrhea purely because they are over-fed.

The anti-biotics should clear his tummy problems by the time he has finished the course. Try feeding him plain chicken for 3 days (no rice) and then gradually introduce his normal diet. Little and often is better than large meals twice a day for now. I always recommend a holistic cat food for poorly tummies such as Eaglepack or Orijen; they are great at settling tummies. I wouldn't go down the raw food route until his stools are normal, and then there is very good info on this diet here:
http://www.bengalcatforums.com/forums/v ... php?t=2008

There is also 'Prairie raw instinct' which is a freeze dried raw food.

Bengals are prone to watery eyes unfortunately. You could try dabbing them with cotton wool soaked in a weak tea solution which is a natural antiseptic.

Most importantly though, make sure he has plenty of water even if you have to syringe some down him! Also, try him on pro-kolin which is a probiotic paste and is usually excellent for kittens/cats with diarrhea.

Good luck and let us know how he gets on!

Sorry, I just realised that you have been giving the bub kaolin, but I would persevere with it until his stools are back to normal

Thanks for your support. Sunday started off very badly. Little one completely refused to eat. He had vomitted up his medicine over night. Managed to keep the morning dose down but was sick again in the afternoon. However after that he became very hungry and was yelling for food which he has managed to keep down. The poos are still extremely soft but not as liquid as they were.

As of today he is still eating and drinking and taking his medicine and keeping it down. My vet said he thought it would take three days for there to be a real improvement so I am hoping by tomorrow things will be even better. I have been given a ten days supply of the antibiotic so we will keep on going.

I am glad that he is slowly improving, I'm sure he will be back to fitness in no time :D It's always so hard seeing an animal poorly but at least you are doing your best for him and that's what is important!

This link might be of help to you if you want to try a raw diet later on...

http://www.holisticat.com/rawdiet.html

I would recommend seeking your vets advice before starting this though, and always remember that feeding a cat a proper nutritional raw diet takes time, a lot of ingredients, and even the proper equipment!

Fingers crossed the little guy is better very soon!

Thats a useful link Tally, its good to see that a raw diet is not just made up of raw beef/rabbit mince or any other mince , there are other indgredients that complete it so it is balanced diet.

I've added that one to my favourites to read up on :D

Cheers jim & the furlings.

I have a 10 yr old bengal who is allergic to chicken, of all things. It gives him really bad diarrhea and vomiting.

We feed him Prairie canned food, alternating between beef and lamb. Sometimes we also mix a bit of twice-cooked rice in it. If you're looking for kibble, Prairie has Lamb Meal and Oatmeal Medley (which I will have my cat try soon).

Basically, if your kitty is still having digestive issues after the meds, I would suggest eliminating anything chicken in the diet.

Hope your kitty gets better soon!

Hi Everyone

Well, things got worse but fingers crossed I think things are now getting better. After 10 days of antibiotic there was no improvement and little one was producing liquid poos anywhere in the house. I read the link sent to me about T Foetus and the symptoms matched so I phoned my vet on Saturday and asked what he thought. He hadn't heard of the complaint but googled it and phoned me back. The he could not find the drug suggested licenced in the UK but he has put little one on something he believes is similar. So far it seems to be working. Because little one is so small he only weighed 1.65 kilos on Sunday he is on a quarter tablet twice a day. Up until having the tablets it was food in and food out. He is now being able to digest food and has increased in weight to 1.71 kilos which is more than he has gained in 3 weeks! I'll keep you posted.

Pleased to say he has been putting on weight every day and up until yesterday no more really wet jobs.

Probably my fault - thought it was time to try him on something other than Hills ID and Iams kitten dry (mixed) as he was helping himself to big ones food and showing less and less interest in his own.

He ate a small amount of HiLife 60% (which according to the label is made of only chicken/tapioca and jelly) and ran straight to his tray and had the wet one. Big boy was not affected eventhough he had wolfed it down.

Back to ID see how it goes. Will try one of the fish varieties next to see if he is intollerent to chicken.

I have seen articles saying mix food with hair ball feed to harden poo. Can anyone tell me why. I thought it would do the opposite as I assumed it was designed to help the cat pass any hair balls. Comments please.

In the meantime fingers crossed this was just a little hiccough as the tables are nearly all used up (goody goody).

I do love my boys but I cannot believe how sensitive they are. I had Siamese cats for over 30 years and only had minor problems when they were tiny with regard to cows milk!

Regards
Spottycats

That's really good news spottycats, i hope he continues to do well. :D

You're right though. Bengals do seem to have exceptionally sensitive tummies.
I find the slightest different thing in their diet can set them off, but when you do eventually find the right balance, they're usually ok.
