Hey Everyone.

I've successfully got Link switched over to Blue Wilderness Kitten Dry, and he's been on it happily for about a month now. In that month I've noticed his fuzzies beginning to end, and his fur is going from super soft to super soft + silky! Not like any cat I've ever felt before!!

Anyways, today I was at the local pet food store re-upping on his dry food and saw they had the kitten formula as wet food. I curiously bought a couple cans and Link IMMEDIATELY dived in!

I've never had cats before. Only were allowed stray outsides when I was living at home, so they only got tuna we had or dollar tree kibble I would buy. Now that I have my own place and kitten I'm wondering...

What are the appropriate portions of a can of wet food? Like how many times should it serve, do I put it in the fridge, etc. Should I let him eat as much as he wants like with his dry?

Thanks, and I can strongly recommend Blue Wilderness to people looking for a good dry/wet food in the US. It had the highest meat content I could find and is grain free. Also a 5lb bag lasts me about a month and is only 20$ :]

Regarding your questions about the wet vs dry thing...

The guideline is really the same whether it be wet or dry food, and that is "all he'll eat" for at least the first 6 months or so. And there are definite advantages to making a larger and larger part of his diet canned/wet rather than dry, because it provides more moisture and less filler to your cat. I think the big difference though, is that the wet food will spoil pretty rapidly.

You can feed him all he'll eat, but what you don't want to do is leave it sitting in his dish for hours on end. So it becomes an exercise in figuring out how much he'll eat in one sitting, and feed him that amount. You *can* put the remainder in the fridge, and you can buy little plastic covers that fit over cat cans, but the texture of the food changes when it's been sitting in the fridge, and when you feed it to your cat, it will be cold. Cats seem to like food at room temperature. You can put it in the microwave for 10-15s or so, but to be honest it's still less desirable to the cat than a fresh can.

He ate 1/2 of a can today at two sittings each a 1/4. Guess that'll be his serving size, I've been keeping the rest in an airtight container in the fridge (next day leftovers aren't THAT bad :P)

Mine eat half a can each morning and night so I usually don't have any left over but when I did I would keep it in the fridge for no longer than a day. Just a tip if you put the remaining food in a ziploc bag you can put it in a bowl of hot water for a few min to warm it. Or like I do for BB, she usually gets all the juice and leaves the food so I add hot water to hers. I just went and got their dry yesterday and it had gone up to$39 for a five pound bag. Still isn't that bad for the quality and seems tobe good for the both of them if I get the pink bag or salmon flavor. The chicken upsets my boys tummy

If you're looking for another food choice even higher in protein, Nature's Variety Instinct is a good one, too. My boys love the rabbit.
