So I've been debating about Sammie's food...

Ever since she could eat food she has been fed IAMS, and right now she eats that in their Hairball Control formula (she's never had a hairball in the 5 months I've had her, but that's the food she came with) and pretty much only that, unless I give her some IAMS wet, which is very rarely.

Anyways, we were at Petsmart tonight, and I noticed that they carried Royal Canin. I remembered a lot of people on here mentioning that they used it, and I began to ponder if eventually Sammie should be switched onto their food for some unknown reason.

Would it be worth it? I am just scared of upsetting her in any way. She's an extremely picky eater to the point she won't even touch normal meat (like chicken, beef, turkey, etc that I've put down for her to eat) and really apparently likes her IAMS. Her poop is not smelly, she doesn't get hairballs, she's not fat, her coat is wonderfully shiney and healthy. In my mind there's no reason to switch, but for some reason I am just thinking I should. Am I caught up in spoiling her too much?

If the switch was to be made, it'd be awhile in the future, as she's working on a 20 pound bag of IAMS and I'd hate to see it all go to waste as there's tons of it left.

Looking for input, help!

why fix something that aint broke..
he seems happy and healthy so stick to what he likes..

If you want a change anyway, just add a little bit of the new food to the normal food adding a bit more new and less normal over several days..
this helps stop them get dicky tummies..

seriously though.. Sammy sounds in purrfect health with his IAMS..

haha, yeah, i know i shouldn't try to fix a nonexistent problem. i just see posts where people are saying that IAMS is complete crap and you need this and that and this in the food. i am a bit of a freak over sammie, as she's basically my daughter and so i just want the best. but i think i also need to remember that she is a cat, and cats all over the world do just fine with nonfancy cat food,

I agree, it sounds like you've got the magic 'ingredient' for Sammie, in every way...if she enjoys it, and she seems happy and healthy, i'd say leave her to it.

Comparing Iams to Royal Canin, if I had to make a choice, I'd pick Iams. Royal Canin's hairball control formula has corn gluten meal as its second ingredient (at least the US version over here). That's not something I'd want to feed to my cats. On the other hand, the Iams over here has chicken by-product meal as its second ingredient. I don't like that either, but at least it's an animal-based protein source and therefore better than grain by-product such as gluten.
