What makes a food complete or not?

Just asking out of interest.

A complete food has everything in it to keep your cat healthy, such as minerals, taurine etc.

A complimentary food should only be fed as an occasional treat as it lacks essential nutrients and if fed as the only foods will lead to deficiancies which can be life threatening.

It should say on the packaging whether it is complete or complimentary.

Lollo, is there a breakdown of what is in the sainsburys food?

In my defence though (before you go calling the RSPCA about my malnutritioned cats ) I feed mine wet and dry.

I presume all the main UK cat food brands are complete e.g. Whiskas, Felix, kitekat, supermarket's own brand tins.

I remembered this thread and thought I would get PigFace some of the food to try as I was in Sainsbury's.

He was lazing around by the warm radiator when I opened the Turkey Mousse. Within seconds, he had leapt across the room, into the kitchen yowling at me. He then proceeded to almost inhale the food. One very happy, satisfied monster then slept on my lap for 3 hours without moving!

The bonus was - I got to watch The Day of The Doctor in peace!

I tried it too . Pate and pouches. Pouches -both said no. Pate -only Indiya said -mm maybe.. not sure though. Lol

Not overly bothered by the chicken mousse this morning. Refused to even consider the chicken / duck in a pouch!
Won't bother buying this again (unless the turkey mousse is individually available) I think!

I don't suppose anyone's got a breakdown of the ingredients for this yet? I feed Natural Instinct wild game (the only one they'll eat), but it's often unavailable and I'm getting a little concerned about the lead shot in it too. I supplement with Bozita, but they can both be really fussy and it's getting difficult to find flavours they'll eat reliably. I'd love it if I could find a high quality food that I could get locally.

Our bengal has these Sainsbury's pouches. We had problems some time ago because she went off a previous wet food (Hi-Life), we found another high meat content brand she would eat but then it was discontinued and we struggled to find a replacement until we found the Sainsbury brand. The chicken one has 50% chicken breast, the ratio of the chicken and duck pouch is 45%+5%, both include minerals, taurine etc. She won't eat the mousse or pate types. For variety we give her a very small amount of Applaws 80% chicken dry food each day, whitefish once a week, and also vary the wet food with lamb's heart, fresh cooked chicken. She seems happy on the pouches so hopefully this continues
Now if she could go back to waking me up at 5.30-6.00am rather than the 4am wake up call she has been doing for the last few nights I would be very grateful!
