Hello

We have now got our kitten Indi and have had her now nearly two weeks. She is lovely but is handfull as well! Currently she is being fed on whiskas kitten dry food and Natures Best Kitten wet food mixed together 3 times a day.

We have also got a puppy Digit at the same time and we have not yet left dry food out for them both all day as they just eat each others food if left to their own devices. Anyone have any thoughts on if they will be ok without food down when we are at work? If not then any suggestions? What do you all think is the best kitten food?

It is a bit tricky! Not good for Indie to be eating the puppies food If you want to leave dry food down all day, then you could place Indie's food up high where Digit can't reach it, although it won't stop Indie eating Digit's food!!

I would feed them as you are, but maybe switch to a better quality dry food for Indie such as Royal canin, Orijen etc... you could feed them small handfuls of the dry when you are at home and at the weekends so that you can supervise them They will be fine though on 3 nutritious meals a day while you are at work

We had the same thing with our dog and cats when I grew up: The dog would love the cat food and one of the cats would eat the dog food instead. It's probably a given that your dog will eat the cat food if it is within reach. Cat food is richer in protein and I haven't met a dog yet who wouldn't prefer licking the cat's bowl clean instead of his own. Putting it up high where the dog can't get to is a good idea. Dogs naturally eat infrequent big meals while cats eat small meals very frequently. So I would probably just feed the dog once a day under supervision and keep the cat food out of reach for the dog for the rest of the day. The dog would be ok without having access to food throughout the day. It's natural for dogs, but not necessarily for cats.
