Can anyone recommend a GOOD Cat Litter

I'm new but will put in my .10...We started Buddy on Yesterday's News which is good (recycling and all) but it didn't allow him to cover after going. Then I tried Arm and Hammer which is a good odor covering liter except that I was concerned that, as a kitten, it might be toxic. I am now almost out of Johnny Cat which I DO NOT LIKE. So, I will try the SWheat as we have two Targets within 5 miles of home. (When my daughter had her indoor rabbit we used Cedar liter which is NASTY when it gets wet).

Loving this forum and learning alot (just signed up this evening)

Hi Buddy's mama,

a breeder friend recently told me that they're now trying chick crumb. It clumps up just the same as World's Best & Swheat Scoop. I've heard that a lot of breeders in the US use chick crumb too and it's very cheap to buy.

When I've used up all the bags of Oko Plus i'm going to try it :wink:

2 days ago I slipped and just about did the splits after mopping up the mess from the litter we're using. The same thing happened to my friend too and she went up in the air and landed on her bum... :lol:

Oko Plus is like a sticky glue when it's wet, It clumps and sieves great but it's a bit dangerous really on an un-carpeted floor :shock:

Chick Crumb is definitely the way forward!!

I too had been using Worlds Best (which is great but SO expensive)

Chick Crumbs work the same as Worlds Best but at a fraction of the price. I was worried that the the odour control would be lost, but I have no problem with that and the clumping is almost as brilliant as Worlds Best!!

At our local farm shop I can get 25 kg for £6.00 as opposed to World Best which is £15 for 7.5 kg.

I cannot recommend it highly enough and as it feels so similar to the cats and kittens underfoot, I had no accidents when changing them over.

Anyone thinking of changing, just buy one bag to try and I can almost guarantee you won't look back. Better to have the pennies in our pocket than anyone else's

Thanks--Since we are semi-rural, there are two lg. farm markets close by; I'll make some calls and see if they carry Chick Crumb. I have several lg. plastic "paint buckets" with lids (that never were used for wet things) that I can put the liter in. I really do appreciate all the advice.

I use Feline Pine. My previous cat was allergic to the dust from clay litter, so I switched to FP and have never looked back. Its made from reclaimed pine sawdust from mills.. no cutting trees down for them. It's burned so the pine oils that can be harmful are evaporated out. If you have a compost pile, it creates fresh soil in less than a year (and less waste at the landfill). They claim it's flushable, but have recently found out that Sea Otters can get TP (the same disease pregnant women can get from litter) and that 20% of sea otter deaths are caused by the disease, so they don't suggest flushing ANY cat litter down the toilet. Feline Pine leaves the box totally clean when I change it and with no chemicals, it's the greatest.
Also, I read that the blue crystals in the pure silica litter are carconogenic. And silica dust is really bad for the lungs... so stay away from "absorbant crystal" litter.
