I got a Drinkwell fountain for my cats a while ago and it says in the instructions that it needs regular cleaning, including the motor. But it doesn't say how often the motor should be cleaned! Those of you who have one, how often do you do a thorough cleaning where you take everything apart? I cleaned mine today (after about one month of use) but it didn't really seem dirty.

Can't help on the cleaning question but I wonder how you manage without your cat splashing the water everywhere? I bought my lot a Drinkwell fountain at the weekend, plugged it in and all 3 kittens were there in an instant, playing with the water. Within 5 minutes they'd scooped about 2 litres of water all over the floor so the fountain is now back in its box.

I know what you mean. I have mine in the basement on tiled floor with an absorbent towel underneath that I have to replace daily and mop up the excess water around it. I started moving it around because the grout between the tiles underneath it was getting moldy because it's almost always wet. I was thinking of getting a shallow plastic pan or something to put it into that will catch most of the spilled water. I tried a plastic table cloth for a while, but Mikesch chewed that into pieces.

are you still using your drinkwell fountain? Which model is it, the new 'platinum' model, or the 1st one?

i know they love running water, mine do, so i just ordered the new platinum model.
