Good point a line must be drawn some where they are called laws.

and in every society lines are drawn differently, some are the same but they different in a lot of cases.

Yes this day and age it is pretty good as far we so not have to tolerate that many injustices because are fore fathers fought for us.

My point was like I said being an animal lover and activist I agree and do not want to see any animals hurt for entertainment. However hurting an animal for entertainment is illegal in a lot of places, but this is not how this act would be defined in a court of law.
hurting an animal for entertainment implies human entertainment, he is feeding an animal to another animal.

BUT I was merely saying not to jump down this persons throat only because i don't know where he is from or where his society draws lines.

Some cultures do not respect some animals as you would.

For example I would tell a kid with a magnifying glass that it is not fun to torture ants for entertainment.
I also would not want to see this child or his parents jailed for this act alone.

Some people may put feeder fish in this category unfortunately.

To some people killing a bug is no different than throwing a rock for entertainment or otherwise.
There are people who may lump fish in this category.

And where this person is feeding it to another animal, and is not hurting an an animal for his own entertainment

he isnt feeding his cat the fish, he wants to put it in water for his cat to torment/play with BECAUSE HIS CAT IS BORED, have you not read his original post, its not for food its for his cats entertainment to stop it getting bored..

lollo, the comment about "just" goldfish was actually said in the "Diet after TF has cleared", also in the nutrition section.
And check the first reply to this "life fish" thread and you will find the "stupid" comment.

Not surprisingly, both were said by my most passionate debate partner, Louise-paisley.

I feel there are now two discussions intertwined here. One is obviously about animals used as entertainment, on one hand for humans and on the other for other animals.
And the other discussion is if indeed humans need to eat other animals to survive, which if anyone does any real research on the topic they will find that no, humans do not need to eat meat to survive and be healthy.
So regarding any comments trying to prove that it is morally fine for humans to eat other animals, trust me I have heard them before, and I think anyone pushing such comments needs to do some soul searching of their own. We are not discussing humans in survival situations eating an animal to survive. We are discussing humans in the developed world eating animals out of habit and pleasure.

Why did I even entertain the idea of giving live prey to my cat?
Because bengals have a close link to wild cats, unlike domestic cats which have been domesticated for thousands of years.
Just how wild are bengals, and how much of that wild life do they need in the home to remain content? As a new bengal owner I was searching for these answers.
It appears that bengals, although closely related to wild animals, can live fully content lives living indoors chasing stuffed mice and eating kibble, thank you all for the long winded answer to that question.

lollo, you seem to be taking great offense to my post. When have I ever said that domestic cats are less intelligent or active than bengals? You are reading too much into this.

Several people have asked what is the difference between allowing a cat to suffer and a fish. How many people would flinch to find out there is dog in their Chinese food (no offense to any Asians here)? What is the difference between eating a dog and eating a chicken (or cow/pig/etc)? It is our conditioning, our culture. In other words, there is no difference. A chicken has just as much right to life as a dog (or a cat, if you will).

Where do I draw the line? Obviously, when the cat looses interest in that fish, or stares at it dumbfounded. Why don't those of you who watch cats torture wild animals step in?
I think what bothers people here is that the fish cannot escape. That none of this seems "fair" to the fish.
Do you honestly believe that chickens are given more chance to escape than a fish in a tub?

I have spent the last couple weeks reading topics all over the board in this forum. My 16 year old daughter bought a Bengal cat with her own money and is still learning how to care for her, so I thought this forum would be a great place to educate.

Yes, we have read some great helpful topics, but unfortunately she has read so much judgement and negativity as well, she is simply afraid to ask a question for fear of being rebuked. After reading this thread where people debated for days over the life of a goldfish, another thread in regards to rehoming two cats, because she was going to have a baby, you have no idea what is going on in this womans life, she thought this could be a safe place to hopefully find a healthy forever home, which she could not offer her cats.

There are several members on here that have obviously been here a while. Your cats are beautiful, and your cat knowledge a gift to the less educated, but you guys do make it a bit scary when it is time to ask a question.

My daughter seems to think I have ruined her opportunity to ever ask another question on here again, please prove her wrong.
