Help me make a decision please

Just posted this in "discussions" by mistake - should probably be here!

I am looking for a second kitten to be a playmate for Zazou and in the hope that she will leave our two older moggies alone.

The breeder that we had Zazou from has two reserved for me - a sliver girl and a snow boy. My dliemma is that I really now have my heart set on a snow boy (love the snows and would like a boy as my other 3 cats are all girls) but the one that this breeder has is very small and scrawny and she's not 100% sure if he's going to be ready to go even at 13 weeks.

There are two other breeders close by who also have snow boys available (both of whom look gorgeous from the photos I've seen), but I feel committed to the first breeder for a number of reasons:

Firstly, Zazou (who we had from her) is an extremely lovely, well-socialised kitten who settled in with us straight away. The scrawny snow boy has the same father so I'm hoping that he may be just as "easy". Secondly, and for me, perhaps more importantly, she has reserved two kittens for me (so that I can make a final decision in a couple of weeks) without taking a deposit as she trusts me, and thirdly, we are going on holiday for a week at the end of this month and she is going to take Zazou back for that week and look after her. Obviously I don't want to jeopardise the relationship.

So the question is - do I go and look at these other kittens and risk upsetting the first breeder (I feel a moral obligation to her), or do I stick with the first breeder and take the risk that I may not get the snow boy? The silver girl is lovely as well, although her markings are rather pale and muted so she's probably not going to be a great looker!

The other factor is that I trust the first breeder and don't know anything about the other two so maybe should stick with what I know?

What would you do? Help!

Well only you can make that choice, you have verbally committed to your breeder and she has reserved 2 kittens, if you do decide to go for another breeder you really need to tell your current breeder asap... but at the end of the day you have to pick the kitten you are happiest with, after all he is gonna be your pet for many years.... If it were me and i wasnt 100 percent sure of the scrawny boy i would look at others...

Hmmm, difficult situation. If you're not comfortable with letting down the first breeder, then don't even go and look at the other kittens because you'll just be making things even harder for yourself. However, it sounds to me as if you're really not sure this snow boy is right for you and the bottom line is that you're investing in a companion who will be with you for many years and you need to be comfortable with your choice. The relationship with the breeder is important but not as important as the relationship with the kitten (sorry breeders!!).

The bottom line is that if you feel you could make the decision to buy from a different breeder, then go and look at the other kittens ASAP before you have to commit to the first one. If you really don't feel you could let her down, then don't tempt yourself.

I would have sticked to the original breeder =) You know her cats and have an idea of what to expect.

I absolutely adore Aidans breeder, and if I want another cat then I'll know who to turn to : p

. Zazou is such a fantastic kitten - a dream really, that I feel certain that it makes sense to have another kitten from the same place.

The breeder has told me that the little snow boy is fine so far and has had his first jab so I am going to have him. Going back week after next to see how he is getting on and am so excited! My eldest daughter wants to call him Mickey Blue Eyes

I'm so happy for you ^^ It feels really safe to have a close relationship with the breeder. Make sure to post a bunch of pictures of the little one when he's home with you.
