Hello everyone! I am newish to the forum. I have been lurking and reading every post I can (and that interests me) for a couple weeks now. I have been working with a breeder and finally get to go pick my little one on Thursday. I have tried to find a similar topic but have not seen one. I apologize if it is a repeat. Down to the question.
Do Bengal kittens take after there parents, personality wise?
My breeder has mentioned a couple times about different litters whose parents have awesome personalities and has recommended (or at least hinted) I may want to take one of them. She is doing this I am sure to try and be helpful as I have 3 kids so whatever kitty we get will have lots of play mates.

Yes, there is even some research now showing that kittens often take on personality traits of their parents, particularly the father.

Ahh the nature vs nurture question that has occupied psychologists for many many years. I think the only honest answer is that there are some genetic components, some environmental components and some randomness that come into play. Same with people right? In fact psychologists sometimes use animals when they try to study some of this stuff in an attempt to get a handle on human behavior.

said a different way, to get the best picture of how the kitten may turn out, you have to look at the parents, the breeder and how he is being raised, but even then there is no certainty.

I believe there are so many factors that go into a cat's personality. Yes, the parents .... and then the socializing the kittens get from their mom, the breeder environment. Bengals are bred to have a sweet temperament. If they are left with their mom and siblings at least 12 weeks, they will have been socialized by their mom and ready to leave the nest. The breeder will play a huge role as well. If the mom and kittens are kept in an enclosure or cage and not allowed around humans or children, they will not be as socialized for human contact as a breeder who allows the kittens to roam freely around her house, children and pets.

One breeder allows the fathers to have access to the kittens after a week and she says it makes all the difference in the world as he helps with the grooming of the kittens.

A cat's personality will also continue to develop with the new owners, so a lot will depend on you as well. Raiden's dad loved belly rubs and Raiden does, too. Raiden's mom loved to ride on shoulders -- Raiden does not!

Thank you everyone! I didn't this post ended up getting put on as I did not see it the other day....curious. In any case, I picked out my little girl today and if she follows after dad she is going to be AMAZING! She is already appearing to take after him in looks (besides the fact she is marbled and he is rosette). He is such a lover though. Even more excited now!
