Hi all, I have been looking for a spotted brown boy for a little while and have been offered a Bengal / Savannah cross with full pedigree but my question is how can it be a pedigree bengal if the father is a Savannah? I was told that the usual bengal price was good also as Savannahs are more expensive than Bengals. In my mind maybe the fact its not a pure breed even though the cross is with a Savannah somehow seems wrong for a pedigree? I'm really not sure? The breeder said he is more like a Bengal but in his pedigree he has a serval and an Asian leopard cat.

So here I am.

I was really looking for the rosettes of a brown bengal and although this kitten is lovely the spots are a little more Savannah like . . . which is fine but i want to be sure before spending pedigree Bengal money.

Any thoughts very welcome.

This sounds a little crazy. Here's something I found online. I don't know how true this is:

"NO you cannot breed Savannahs with Bengals - you will get a non-registerable cat. TICA is the ONLY association to recognize Savannahs presently.

And according to their standard these are the ONLY allowable outcrosses:

Egyptian Mau, Ocicat, Oriental Shorthair,

I WILL tell you that you won't find a reputable Ocicat breeder allowing you to use their cats in a Savannah breeding program. We do NOT want wild cat blood in our lines! I'm sure the Mau breeders feel the same way.

Andy (below) - I have no idea where you got your background info on how a Bengal and Savannah were created, but you should read the history and background - you are not correct for either breed. The Aby was NEVER used in the Bengals and the Siamese was NEVER used in the Savannah."[/i][/i]

BB is from and Aby line. And there are SEVERAL breeders that use bengals in their savannah program. It may not be what is "allowed" per TICA or what is acceptable by everyone else but it happens a lot! The top breeder of Savannah cats here in the states uses bengals in her program

In doing Raiden's pedigree, there are a lot of Reds or Ruddy's, but never knew they were also Abs. Most of the cats you found on Bengal Pedigrees are in Raiden's pedigree.
