Hi everyone! Becoming a first time bengal owner in a few weeks and wanted your opinions on this little guys markings. First off, let me say that I don't think the breeder took very good photos at all, they appear to be taken using a flash and really blown out and lacking of contrast. That being said, the pic on the right at 6 weeks is showing distinct rosettes to me, but the picture on the left at 8 weeks is showing more of a spotted look?? Is this because kitty isn't as stretched out or can the fuzzy coat cause them to look more closed? Any guesses on what his future markings will look like? Thanks!

The first picture was taken before the fuzzies really started. Now the kitten is full in the fuzzie stage. He will be beautiful in a couple months once his coat is smooth again. Large open rosettes. That's how it looks to me anyway.

I honestly don't think that is the same kitten!

edit: looking back again to be sure, I am 99.9% positive these two pictures are of two different kittens. I have never seen a cat go reverse, they start spotted and then the center falls out to create a rosetted kitten. Also the spotted kitten has a very thick rib bar and the rosetted kitten does not. No amount of poor quality lighting or fuzziness will eliminate a rib bar. Also the spots/rosettes are in completely different locations on the kitten.

At first I was thinking same thing...different kitten, but I really don't think this is the case based on th impression I got from the breeder. Not that I couldn't be gullible, but if you look at the back left foot, the marking looks exactly the same as well. I've posed the question to the breeder and am waiting to hear back. I'd really hate to accuse anyone of anything however. Maybe based on her response, I can ask her to confirm she didn't actually sent me a pic of the wrong kitten based on the difference in the pics.

Of course it is a different kitten.

I think the first picture he is just sitting scrunched up a little. You can see the dark spot on his back foot is the same. I have pictures of my kitten that don't look like the same kitten also cause he is sitting differently. I looked quite a bit at first also and thought they weren't the same kitten too.

Sorry but its not the same kitten! Scrunching him up will not close out his rosettes OR make that rib bar disappear! If the breeder tells you differently they are not being honest! Another distinct marking with the kitten on the left is his darker chaining down the spine that is VERY different than the kitten on the right whose chaining doesnt break up like the kittens on the left. Also just a side note look at the the back foot on the picture of Widget! Same marking! Its not an uncommon markings on bengals both of mine have the same foot markings!

I think this is why many breeders use colored collars on their kittens... so they can tell them apart

I think I've read somewhere that their markings can take a few years to develop their full intensity?

I love my cats who are beautiful..... but wow, when I see some of the cats on here, with what I'd describe as a "fox red" and "honey" tinges to their coats with widely spaced rosettes ... they for me are the most gorgeous cats ever and I could feel a little envious that mine aren't so defined.

However beauty isn't just about the way your pet (or even fellow humans) look, most people would never pick a cat (or a person) to share your life with based solely on their image.... you'd take into account their character, sense of humour and confidence (among other things).
