I am going to get another (hopefully) two babies soonish! I am in the choosing stage still.

In your experience, do you find that two boys (brothers) get along best, or a girl and boy mix (brother and sister)?

I have had female cats growing up as a kid and found them much less friendly than my recently passed away boy cat. What would you suggest? I am just worried that if I get two males they'd try fighting for dominance. And if I were to get a male/female pair, the female would be more standoffish than the boy.

We where advised by the breeder that 2 boys is the best combination & from what i've read this seems to be a popular view. I know our 2 boys get along great although it's early days.

I have a boy and a girl and they get on fine. I think my two break the mould as I seem to have different experiences from everyone else. Pixel, my girl, is a lot friendlier and cuddlier than her brother, Widget. When people come round Pixel comes and investigates everyone and demands fuss from whoever she likes the most. Widget briefly investigates then clears off out the way and we're honoured if he shows his face more than once when I have people over.

They playfight a lot but Widget instigates most of it and Pixel is always the first to back down (by crying out as if she's being brutally murdered... the little diva ).

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning towards two brothers if the breeder has more boys in that litter that she doesn't end up keeping. If not, I'll go with a brother/sister pair =).

The breeder got back to me and said that each boy (from different litters) don't have any brothers, only sisters.

I don't know whether getting two (male and female) from the same litter is best, or getting two boys from different litters. Ah! I am so torn! Can't I have ALL the cats?! Further, they'd be about two months apart if I got them from different litters. I was hoping to have two from the same litter and bring them home together.

That is a tricky one. =/ Do you know if the two litters are being raised together in the same area, and are able to all socialize together? Or is the breeder keeping them separated? If the kittens are essentially growing up together, whether or not they are actually siblings wouldn't really matter. Maybe there is some way the breeder could introduce the two boys now and let them sort of grow up together, while she has them?

Also there is the matter of bringing them home. If one boy is two months younger than the other then you'd either have to bring them home at different times, or wait until the younger one is ready and bring them both home together. Ideally bringing them both home at the same time would be best - it sort of levels the playing field, so to speak. Also it would be more comforting for them to have each other when they move to their new home. Plus, even though 2 months isn't that long, even siblings would have to get used to each other all over again after that kind of a separation. It could definitely work, and work very well, but there's a possibility that it could take a bit longer for them used to each other again if you bring them home separately.

Or if you're really set on having siblings, you could just do a boy and a girl, but choose the two carefully and make sure they seem to have matching personalities (even siblings from the same litter can grow to dislike each other if they are very different). Personally I would have two boys, even if I had to wait longer. After having lots of experience with both genders I much prefer the males.

That is great advice, thank you =). I am waiting to see if the second male from the newer litter will be available - wont know til next week. If he ends up being available, I will definitely ask the breeder if that can be done. To me, that sounds like the ultimate combination. If not, I will likely go with the brother/sister pair since they have been raised together. I'd like to bring home two kittens around the same time as one another, if not together, so I don't think I'll wait to find a second male elsewhere if I don't get two males with her. I'm hoping that if it comes down to the brother/sister pair, they'll be great together. So far, according to the breeder and I see it in the photos, they get along great and have similar, playful personalities.

Tough choices here, ah!
