We are a semi-busy family of 5 plus 2 dogs. We have one person with cat allergies. 3 children ranging from ages of 15 to 3. Both my husband and I work full time. I have weekends off and he has 3 days off a week. We rarely travel and when we do we have someone watch over our pets. I have done tons of research of the Bengal breed but I want to hear from actual owners is the Bengal breed right for my family?

I think dogs would be a challenge if they are large prey driven breeds. The most concerning to me is that you have someone with allergies. My advice would be to find a good breeder and make an appointment to spend the day with their cats. You will see then if your family member is allergic to bengals. My oldest son and I are both highly allergic to cats, my son more so than I am. We have a bengal and not long ago had two and they never bothered us to the point of having a severe allergic reaction. They do however take a month or two to adjust to if you have allergies. We are also both on allergy medications as well. As far as having children and working full time with bengals, I think that is something that can work out. Find a breeder that socializes with children often if not everyday. I have had two different experiences with bengals and kids. We got BB(my girl now) as a kitten and she was around children at the breeder and then we got Jasper who was an adult and never around kids. BB adores my kids, I have four under 10, and she seeks out their attention and is often found curled up with one of them asleep. Jasper on the other hand was very scared and stressed by kids. To the point that we had to rehome him to someone without children. It can go either way but my advice is to find a breeder with children and also get a kitten! I think it can work!

My dogs do not have a high prey drive. they are both very well behaved and get along with both dogs and cats. They do not chase other animals or try to kill other animals. They have NEVER gone after or chased any of our fosters! I am NOT at all concerned about my dogs what I want to know is whether or not having 2 Bengal cats is good for my family as we are semi-busy and my husband and I do work full-time.

You can't train a dog to not have a prey drive. Ever.

actually you can---- you can train them what is okay to chase and what is not...... again I am NOT concerned about my dogs because they have been raised with fosters and they have NEVER hurt them. My dogs have NOT been trained to hunt and do NOT come from hunting lines. I think you are thinking more about Labs, Terriers, Spaniel's, etc ......but thanks for your input on my dogs.

I have to agree that dogs can be trained. I was raised with both German Shepherd and dobermans (great choice in you canine companions btw) and none of our dogs would ever hurt another animal. My Dobie cuddled with my pet rabbit all the time. I think your number one thing isn't the dogs it's socialization and of course health. Find a good breeder or a few, make the visit to the cattery and see for yourself what the breed is like in person. I think you will be perfectly fine with a bengal or two in your home! If you don't mind me asking where are you located?

I have two children and my bengal is okay with them. My eldest is 7 and she will let him pat her, but she runs away from my youngest who is 3. We got her at 12 weeks old and she's just starting to come to myself and my husband for pats.
My husband works full time and I work 4 days a week. We do have an older cat and they play/sleep together during the day. My bengal craves a lot of attention when I get home from work.
