ok, so i have dealt with "bad behaviour" before, when goblin was young he used to get quite rough when he played and we just went down the firm "no!" route and ignored him. now he is good as gold.

however little ghillie has developed a new and interesting way of causing pain.

youy know when kitties treadle? well have you ever seen them grab some clothing or similar in their teeth at the same time?
apparently its something to do with them searching for something to suckle...

well ghillie has decided he absolutely has to treadle my hair and shoulders when im sleeping. unfortunately he is now trying to do the biting down thing on me!

Im sitting here at work with a cat hickey on my neck!!! not to mention teeth prints on my earlobe.

i dealt with this this morning by hiding under the duvet and after a few mins crying he settled himself to treadling outside the duvet.

i dont want to be telling him off for this behaviour, coz i know it is a sign of comfort and happiness! but at the same point i cant walk around with bite marks all over me!

so what i want to know is, if i just do the "redirecting" him towards the duvet each time he does it, will he learn not to nip me?

It is quite sweet in a painful sort of way - I can just imagine you trying to explain the marks on your neck. I wonder how many people will believe you

I think re-directing him or distracting him is the best way to go and hopefully he'll learn what's OK to do to you and what isn't.

when i was a teenager i had a lovely cat called lily, lily used to give me hickies then moved to my ears, she would suck them for ages if i let her, i could pick her up and walk around with her attached to my ear. she never grew out of it....she lives at my nanas now and will still do it given the chance...she is now 10!
