We have just had a fairly large cat run and house delivered and installed this afternoon.

We bought it as we want the cats to be able to spend some time outside but at the same time know they were safe and secure.

Its ended up costing us about £300 (cheapest we could get having scanned the net, etc) but we have 2 Ragdolls and 1 Bengal and although we live in a quiet area this gives us peace of mind when we are out. etc.

I have considered the enclosure idea but it seems too restrictive. We are several miles from the nearest main road and presumably 5 miles a night would not actually take our potential new pet more than 2.5 miles from the house - assuming he/she chooeses to return of course. It is fairly obvious I suppose that my preference is for having an outdoor cat. Given the Bengal's boundlesss energy, my wife's reluctance to have the perpetual fragrance of cat litter wafting around the house and my unwillingness to confine what is, after all, an animal that is closer to the wild that many pets, perhaps I should choose another breed. But, here's the rub, we have fallen in love with Bengals. We have visited a local breeder who has several wandering around the house and they are magnificant animals.

I would love to hear from anyone who has a free roaming Bengal, the good and the bad. Thanks again for your responses and I would welcome any further comment.

I've been breeding bengal's for the 8 year's. It took me ages to build my cat pen I thought I'd done everything, put my female bengal out there who was pregnant . It was summer and realy hot. went out in the morning she'd gone ?. but how?. I'd put clear corigated roofing on and screwed it down. she'd squeesed herself out of the roof overnight and was gone all day I was frantic looking for her everywhere. but nothing. all the next day nothing then in the evening i was calling her and she came running back cobweb's all over her she was realy pleased to see us. and we were realy pleased to have her back. now I have now sorted the roof out. [ But she did come back?.]

I,ve got a run on order,due to be built Fedruary time.When I was first looking to buy cats,I was originally going to buy Burmese,as my parents had had 3 previously,they now have another 2,but now live in Norfolk and they let there's out because they are out in the sticks,but when I first saw a Bengal,I, as yourself fell head over heels and just had to have one [or 2 as it turns out],but decided quite quickly I wasn't going to let them out,plus the breeder recommended that they stay indoors,as there cats do,but with a run added onto the house.But at the end of the day,the decsision is all yours.

I've been thinking of building or buying a cat run for our two bengals, Minnie where did you get your run from? can anyone recommend any places to look?

Hi, we have 2 bengals that are 9 months old. We was not going to let them out initially. But we do now for a few hours at a time.

They come back when we call them (9 times out of 10 anyway) and have been fine and love the outside.

They sometimes also come out in the car for small journeys and even sit in a babies seat.

I would rather let them roam for 5 miles than be locked up in a run, it makes them seem more like zoo animals than pets.

We have also put bells on their collars, so they have not had the chance to be prolific hunters.

My boy goes out for a few hours a day when my OH comes home. Then at weekends he goes out for longer. He comes to call every time I call him. He doesn't go far, usually in the trees!! He's always with my other Moggie. They both stay in at night. Jake is only 3 quarter bred Bengal though. This may make a difference???
