Hey there so last Saturday I got a new female furr baby as a new friend for myself and my 3 year old bengal Luna. New kitty is also a Bengal. She is a seal lynx silver point and I have named her Nebula. Unfortunately introductions havnt gone well at all. It's a shame because Nebula has settled in extremely well and is very keen to come and explore the rest of the flat. However I've never seen this side to my Luna before. She was very aggressive and angry at me just as much as the new arrival for the first 24 hours but in the past few days her behaviour towards me has been more like normal. She is more confident in herself again but now her anger is mainly focussed on nebula. She will often either sit watching the door to her room or go up to it and hiss and growl. I change into different clothes to go and spend time with Nebula because if Luna smells her on me she then hisses and growls at me. I've started putting that set of clothes near lunas cat tree to try and get her more used to it but it seems like this could be a really long effort and any advice would be greatly appreciated

Luna's behavior is pretty much what I expected from Oberon when I brought a Manx boy home for him as a play buddy.

I have been telling Oberon that I got the cat FOR HIM. I have been giving him most of the attention. Extra food, extra attention, extra play. I do not want him to be jealous of the new guy. And he has been sticking to me like glue.

I think it is important to give Luna more love and attention than ever. And maybe ignore Nebula to some extent so Luna knows she is not being replaced.

I also recommend Sargent's Calming Collars and Feliway diffusers. They contain the pheromones that promote friendship and happiness that are in a cat's whiskers.

A kitten is so cute, but you actually need to ignore her a bit. Maybe even only allow others to handle her, feed her, play with her while you devote 100% of your attention to Luna.

You might want to read my post and some of the comments in my post about choosing a buddy for Oberon.

I tried to post a link but it didn't work. It is under Tips and Advice.

I'm sorry the introduction isn't going well. Some do and some don't. Unfortunately, you need a LOT of patience. You've introduced a newcomer into Luna's territory and she is not happy about it. Both cats need to have their own space and territory. Hissing and growling is common. Know that your new baby is also having a time adjusting to being away from siblings and mom and being put into a brand new environment with new people, smells and another strange cat. They need to be supervised when they are together. You can try using wand toys and engaging them both in play at the same time.

Usually introductions are started by placing the new kitten in a safe room and swapping scents. Then actually introducing them by holding the new kitten on a lap while the other can sniff out the cat. Eventually feed them in the same general area. It is a process and it can be immediate love or it can take months. Regardless, it's work for you but will be rewarding once they have learned how to co-exist with each other.

Would just like to firstly say thankyou to all that have responded to my mini nightmare. Any and all tips and advice are greatly appreciated. I feel like I've been a little bit naive by forcing this situation on my dear Luna. It's now day 6 since Nebulas arrival. Luna is still very moody as to be expected but I am feeding her by the kitten door now and she seems alot more comfortable sitting down to eat it. Until she hears Nebula and then the growls and a go as starts again. I also just tried what one of you mentioned by feeding her a few treats by the kitten room door. It almost feels like Russian roulette though just praying kitty doesn't wail or piss Luna off as I have my hand near her mouth. I was genuinely scared of her for the first day that really caused a problem for me mainly because if all the vantage points Luna could pounce on me from lol. As far as playing with them both at the same time I think we are a long long way from that. I don't even know when their next face to face is going to be. I'm being as affectionate as I can be with Luna it's just quite alarming when she scents kitty on me and then goes all feral towards me

Just so you know ... there is a owner who has been trying to introduce two bengals for months now. When it gets this time consuming, it is NOT for the faint of heart. Many owners get another bengal for themselves and others feel their sole bengal needs a friend. Just as some kids or siblings can't get along, and we adult humans aren't friends with every single other human, cats have to find their friends, too. Trying to force a friendship is going to take a while.

Jackson Galaxy has some holistic remedies on his website that are for various issues and maybe something would work for you. Some people say they work, others say they don't. I don't know about shipping overseas. Feliway diffusers might help around the house, too. It's easy obtained at a pet store or through your Amazon in the UK.

The other thing is IT HAS ONLY BEEN ONE WEEK. You cannot expect much in a week, or maybe even two weeks. All you can do is take each hour at a time, day at a time and try to work some magic on the situation. I know it is wearing on you, but getting Luna and Nebula to co-exist peacefully is going to take time. And the issue seems to be with your older kitty, Luna. She is not happy with the youngster infringing on her space. Thus, keeping them separated most of the time and supervising any close interaction is what is required by you.

I'm just hoping you're not thinking, "gosh, I don't know if I can take much more of this." Ones decision to get a cat becomes a lifetime commitment. Gads, there are times I can't tolerate my 12-year old bengal. Especially when he is yowling in the middle of the night and wakes me up -- or I should say yowling several times during the night waking me up. But I love him and I made a commitment to put up with his quirks forever. We also have a DSH and while most of the time they are fine together, Raiden decides he wants to attack him. Happened twice this morning. So, you aren't the ONLY bengal cat owner in this world having issues with behavior.

Be patient, know that things can only improve from here. It is just going to take some time.

Something that may help in the introduction process is transferring the pheromones from the whiskers of each cat to the other cat. Effectively rub each other with friendship pheromone scents by proxy.
