Hi all,
just a quick question. Lyra has become quite vocal over the past couple of weeks and it seems to be stronger today. But it is not an unpleasant yowl, but more of a talkative almost Siamese mroawling (very hard sound to try to spell)
She is also v scatty and mad (more than usual ) and quite restless.
However, she is not paddling her back feet or being "rude" as I was told she would be.
Could she be in call?Or are the symptoms clearer than this? She will be about 8 months old now.

Hi, it sounds like she's starting to come into call, My female Tia is now spade
but we had the pleasure of her coming into season for the first time.

Like Lyra, she started out quite quiet, but soon turned into a screaming banshee we did have a little rude behaviour but not much, one thing she did start doing was spraying, but stopped after about a week,
with the guidence of all the great members on this forum, we got through it

On a possitive note, the advise i was given was not all female's scream,
some churp like angel's,

Hi Tanith, looks like she's heading for her first season but probably not there yet. She will almost certainly be licking her rear end and very possibly be peeing in unusual places when properly calling (as well as the rolling and squawking etc.). She will be very unsettled and probably even more affectionate than usual. The noise can vary but is usually a loud wail, enough to worry about the neighbours if you have any.

Like the comment "even more affectionate than usual" - I had been confused b4 when people said that the cat was affectionate during this time. Lyra is very very affectionate anyway and I wonder how much more affectionate she could get.

I also love all the - slightly gleeful - comments re the noise she is likely to make.
My poor, patient elderly neighbours are already very tolerant of teenage daughters doing thier "The Strokes" covers complete with electric guitar and drums.

Happily, they are quite cheery ppl and can be - and have been - compensated with an apologetic bottle of whisky. . .
See - the costs of breeding just keep going up and up . .

Our 8 month old kittens both started by making the noise but not actually assuming any body positions...they were making all the right noises but the look on their faces was one of "why am I making this noise?" however, within a few weeks of this one of them had her first proper call and started assuming the position and flirting with anything that moved

Fortunately we have two girls that make the sweetest of chirps instead of the gut wrenching howl that the other two make when calling...so, with any luck you'll have a chirper not a howler

Do you have handsome young man lined up for her?

I know what you mean re the confusion. It's like she doesn't know what to do with herself and is being very funny treating me like another kitten - running at me flank first with her tail fluffed up like a bottle brush. She wants to play all the time atm.

Her future beau is a stud from the breeder that let us have Lyra. He is really nice. He has silver genes and so we should get a mix of browns and silvers from Lyra by him.
He is called Stonehenge Neolithic Warlord (or Neo - like mr Keanu Reeves )

He is very sweet natured and has a low, wild tail carriage. Lyra, though tarnished, has a very wild face and though I think it will be a few generations before we have show quality kittens, I believe that we will have excellent pet quality kittens with very nice natures and an appealingly exotic wild look.

I hope that at least on of Lyra's baby girls will be a keeper for further breeding as it would be brilliant to get that amazing monochrome silver without losing the spots definition or the wild face - apparently quite hard to do. Whatever, really all we can ask for is happy, robust little kittens . . . and suitable homes for them . . .
