So my kitten has only been here a couple of days. 4 as a matter of fact. The first two days he used the litter box perfectly fine. The past couple of days he will jump on my lap, on the sofa or bed, and pee right next to me. I don't know why he would be doing this if he was okay the first two days. Hes the only cat. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your baby! I'm guessing you have never had children who you are trying to potty train and have "accidents." Most kittens who are completely litter box trained do not have accidents, however, you have a small kitten with tiny legs who has to run to a litter box that may be clear across the house and hundreds of steps for him. Plus, kittens can get excited and just lose bladder control. The solution? First, all pee has to be cleaned with an enzyme cleaner to get rid of the pee and odor or the cat will return again and again. Second, add another litter box. If you have a large home or multi levels, you need boxes everywhere.

That being said ..... usually when one gets a new kitten, they take it to the vet for a complete checkup and to start a medical history chart on the kitten.

Oh ... and never punish the kitty or rub its nose in it. This is not the kitty's fault.

Ok, so several things...

1. This is exactly why it is recommended to keep a new kitten in a "saferoom" for a while, until you are sure that they are confident in their surroundings, with the house's inhabitants, and is good with his food and litterbox. And that is advice for a 13 week old kitten that has been raised in a quality cattery sort of situation!

2. For your cat this ought to be especially true, given the kitten's tough upbringing that you described. He really really really needs a saferoom where is world his relatively small and manageable for awhile. At his age, you might actually have to do that for a few weeks or even more. Really bad idea to just open his cage and give him the run of the house!

My advice is: put him in a single room, have at least one litterbox in there, maybe more. Have his food, toys, something to climb on, and visit him frequently. Play with him, feed him, comfort him, let him know that he is loved, but don't overwhelm him. His world needs to be that small room for awhile. When he's doing really really well, with rock solid eating habits, litterbox habits, confidence with his surroundings and people, then THAT is the time to give him more.

The little monsters 3

We have been keeping him in the dinning room, but its kind of hard since the kitchen, dinning room , and living room are open concept. Then there is a bathroom which he hates to go into and is super tiny and the bed room which is his favorite place to pee, apparently. We kept him in the dinning room last night and this morning when I woke up I opened the door to the bedroom. He ran in there and jumped onto the bed and squatted right next to my girlfriends face. His face was literally touching hers he was so close. His litter box is in the dinning room and from the living room, where we sit, its only 5 ft away give or take a little. He goes poop in it perfectly fine. No problems there. Its just peeing. He peed and pooped in it perfectly fine the first couple of days.

And apparently since I wouldn't let him in the bedroom or on the couch he peed in his bed/scratching post thing. Which is next to the couch. That was while I was just typing this. All of that happened in a matter of 40 minutes. I think he can hold it perfectly fine. He just refuses to go pee in the litter box. Unless I am standing over him in the dinning room he wont pee in it.

We have never had a problem with any cats we have had in the past. We even took in a friendly stray. Peed in the floor once and we showed him the litter box. Never had another problem with him.

When he knows we are home and is in a different room from us he cries and gets louder and louder every time. He only quits if we are quiet long enough.

We have a vet appointment today so we are all good for that.
