Hi,
We have a 7 month old female kitten, since we got her we have had no problems with using the litter tray. She goes out regularly throughout the day and therefore not really been using the litter tray except for night times.

However, over the past week she has had accident after accident (poo) in two places. She has been a little loose and so we have had her checked by the vet who has given her probiotics which have helped. However she is still going back to the two places instead of the litter tray. We have scrubbed with everything possible (vets and petshops advice)to try and get rid of the scent and have been really cautious about keeping the doors to both the rooms closed. She is still sneaking in and doing it at every unwatched opportunity (or when someone has not shut the doors properly).

I have cleaned and maintained her litter tray which she has never had a problem with until now. Nothing else has changed food wise, behaviour wise etc and the vet checked her and was happy.

Does anyone have any other advice we could try?

Thanks

Did your vet test a stool sample or just prescribe antibiotics for a condition that may or may not be there? I would add another litter box near the area that he is using to poo. A soft stool is the most difficult to clean, too, and it usually signals a few things. Mainly that the food is leaving the digestive system too quickly. You can try a feline probiotic and see if that helps. But, adding a second litter box never hurts. This is all assuming there isn't something going on such as a parasite in the digestive system.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
He gave us probiotics not antibiotics for her and they have helped. Will try another litter tray- we are hoping to eventually get her off using the litter tray altogether as she does go out regularly but currently need to stop this problem first!
