Hi,

This is my first post on here and I'm so glad I found a bengal forum!

I am the owner of a beautiful 3 year old bengal boy named Atlas. I also have a rag doll named Apollo who I got from the same breeder. Both are desexed.

The start of this year has been a tough one. My partner and I have bought our first home and have relocated to a different city.
I have also experienced a terrible loss two weeks ago when my mum passed away unexpectedly.
My mum had three cats and myself and my two sisters have adopted one each.
I adopted her 6 year old female tabby named Buffy. (Also desexed)
Since bringing Buffy home (after the first few days of the usual hostility to new housemates), Atlas has been continually howling and meowing.
At first we thought it may have had something to do with moving houses but we've moved twice before and this has never been an issue.
However, we are now certain it has to do with Buffy as he follows her around like a total creeper (he's not aggressive), just howling.
The only real deprive we get is when he's sleeping.... no such luck when we are sleeping i'm afraid.

It's been going on for 1.5 weeks and I'm at a loss.
We have researched pheremone collars but I am unsure if they would calm him or if they are a total waste of money?
We are also in the process of building him a vertical cat wall to keep him entertained but my partner doesn't seem to think it will solve the problem.

It's so imperative to me that all 3 of my cats can coexist and are happy.
If anyone has ever experienced this before or has any advice/tips I would be forever grateful.

Cats in general are territorial in nature, resident cats often see new cats as rivals or threat especially if you rush to thrust them together. Keep the new cat segregated from the other at first and make sure the new cat has its own stuff that means a separate litter box, food and water, perch, scratching post and toys. "Then, gradually introduce the new cat to the resident cat, letting your resident cat first just see the new cat, then eventually letting them be around each other a little. Sometimes this takes a couple weeks

What is Atlas' relationship like with you and your husband? Has it changed in the last couple of months? My thought on this is that: holy cow, this has been a really really rough and stressful time for your cats. So much change, losing his home, your grief, and now having a new cat thrust on him. Any one of those things could be extremely upsetting and seem like the end of the world to a cat. But it's sort of a triple whammy. I'm actually really amazed that it hasn't resulted in a lot more hostility from him. It feels to me like he's handled this pretty well, although perhaps he's a bit sad and depressed about things.

My advice is simple: a lot more attention and love for Atlas. Whatever you do, don't get angry and resentful towards him, that will just make it much much worse. Make sure he feels like he's still a valued member of the household, and yea, keep him away from Buffy for awhile if possible. Lots of alone time with his favorite people. Make very sure that if has favorite perches or favorite activities, or toys, or interactions with you guys that he hasn't lost any of those things in the shuffle. Vertical cat wall for him sounds like a great idea to me. I think you probably have some fences to mend with Atlas right now.

I am so sorry to hear about your mum passing away. You've certainly had a full plate these past few months. It's wonderful you've taken in one of your mum's kitties. Know that male bengals are highly territorial and I would have advised that you keep the new cat in a "safe" room and start swapping scents between the cats. Do you have a couple of tall at trees for your kitties? With three of them, I'd have at least two. The other thing is that each cat has its own personality and gets stressed in different ways. Cats can also sense stress and grief from their owners. That being said, you need to make sure you are completely settled in your home and make the environment as comfortable as possible for your kitties.

Feliway may help the situation -- diffusers and/or spray. You may be in the UK and cannot get any of Jackson Galaxy's Spirit Essences that may help Atlas.

Obviously, something is bothering Atlas if he is crying and meowing so much. As long as he is not aggressive toward Buffy, you can fix this. But, know that cats generally go at their own pace -- not yours. A lot has transpired over the past 6 weeks -- it may just take some time, so be patient. Know that Buffy is stressed out with coming into a new environment as well. Try to engage Atlas in plenty of play time -- add the other cats to the mix as well. Things should get better with time.
