Just as the title says...I feel my 12 month old Bengal doesn't get enough mental stimulation. This is mainly because I am gone ~12 hours a day, from 7am to 7pm. Then once I get home, he goes crazy for hours and hours on end. I understand that this is just how the breed is, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get him some kind of mental stimulation during the day. Does anyone know of toys that I can set to turn on/off throughout the day while I am gone?

Once I am home, I give him the attention he wants and play with him. Ill toss his toys for him to fetch, use the laser pointer for him to chase around and pet him for as long as he wants. But I can only do this for so long until I need to go to bed.

Along with this, I am convinced he has been peeing outside of his liter box because he does not get enough attention. He did have crystals in his urine several weeks ago, but that has been taken care of. If I can't find some way to help him be active during the day, I feel like I am going to need to re-home him.

Toys aren't going to help. In most cases, I think the most obvious answer would be to get a second cat (preferably a bengal kitten), but there is risk to doing that, not the least of which is that you seem to not be completely sold on wanting to keep a cat in your household.

There are "puzzles" for cats that may help stimulate your kitty's brain. However, I'm guessing your kitty sleeps most of the time you are gone and has all that energy when you come home. You might consider a cat enclosure that your kitty can access while you're gone.

It's easy to suggest a second cat, but not everyone can deal with that, especially a second bengal. They do recommend that bengal owners don't leave their cats alone for a great length of time as they will usually find trouble. They are inquisitive creatures. You could also install a wireless camera in your home and check on him throughout the day with your phone and just see what the little boogar is up to.

As for getting him used to using the litter box again -- if he suffered from crystals, he then associated the pain he was feeling when urinating with the litter box. Try a different box. Try a different type of litter, add Cat Attract. Place him in the box when you think he may have to pee. It is as if you are starting over with a kitten.

The end of your post has me baffled! You may have to rehome him? Just because he's behaving like a normal bengal kitten? I realize being gone 12 hours a day and playing with him for hours doesn't leave a lot of time for YOU, but this is something you should have thought out prior to getting bengal. A regular domestic cat will sleep 20 hours a day. Bengals do not!

You've got to be willing to put in the time and effort. Check out some interactive toys for cats. They can occupy the cat while you are gone. I have a cat wheel and Raiden hops on it a few times during the day .. all on his own initiative. I'm home all day, so when he needs a play session, he comes to me and I spend some time swishing a wand around so he can chase it. There are solutions to your problem.
