My new kitten Luna has had a very dry nose for the past couple of days.its also looking a bit flaky on the sides now. I dont know if its because of an illness or if its because of how hot its been for the past two days and how hot its gotten in my room. shes certainly sleeping alot more than she has been as well but im hoping thats just because of the fact that shes settled in now and shes growing so needs the shut eye. She is not really showing any other symptons or at least not yet. she has been going toilet fine and eating and drinking fine although shes not had alot to drink today as far as ive seen. Im hoping its nothing and im just over worrying

Hi there

There is something called 'Bengal nose', it would probably be an idea to get a vet to take a look at her just to check, but I believe vitamin e oil will help clear it by dabbing it on her nose.

My two have been greatly affected by the change in the weather in the uk, much less active and just trying to find cool shady spots to lay in. They tend to be more active first thing and last thing when it's cooler. Must be tough wearing a thick heavy fur coat when it's hot and sunny! Plus the change in temp here in the uk has been quite rapid!

I would take the kitty to the vet just to check it out. I don't know how much the weather plays out in something like this except for more sleep and less activity. I just checked Raiden's nose and it's moist!

It is probably "Dry Bengal nose" of kittens. Our breeder (also vet) said to us about it. One of our boys has it. It will disappear by itself after some time.
Our breeder says that most of vets don't know about it that some Bengals have it. There is no need to treat. Only you can clean nose time to time.

Thanks so much i appreciate the advice. shes only 10 weeks old and i just want her to be in the best possible condition and healthy and happy. none of her behaviour has changed at all. she is still completely unhinged lol bounding around my room like a maniac. shes not lost her appetite and shes drinking enough water again it was just one day where she didnt drink as much.and pooh a healthy state as well. i took a week off for kitty bonding time. im starting to look like a human pin cushion from when she decided to play with my legs while im asleep!! i wouldnt change it for the world though shes very very beautiful and full of crazy personality. Was slightly led on by the breeder as she said she was well socialised but i soon realised that wasnt the case. none the less i made the commitment and didnt want to walk away from my furry baby. shes due her second vaccinations in a couple weeks would you suggest taking her to see vet before then to check her nose out or do you think its just this case of bengal nose your talking about. as i said she has been acting completely normal still and of course shes only had 1st vaccination 2 weeks ago so her immune system be all out of whack anyways.

I found this article: http://pictures-of-cats.org/bengal-nose.html

They write about some ointment. But our breeder said it will disappear by itself. But nose of our boys isn't so dry like on photo in article. I clean their nose by my nails time to time only.

She sounds like she's acting like any other Bengal kitten if she's bonkers - you will look like you self-harm soon! She'll learn eventually to keep her claws in - I think when mine were about 8 months I started to get less damage done to me!

The breeder is very naughty though, as it is not recommended that kittens leave their mother before 12 weeks as there is a lot of stuff to learn (including socialisation skills etc).

It's always worth taking a new kitten straight to your vet to get her registered and also have an initial health check, regardless of if you are worried about anything.

I saw the pictures of her and she is gorgeous! Full of mischief and character!

Haha mischief and character is certainly one of of describing it!! she was taken to the vets the day after i got her and they said she was fine other than a full bladder..... which she emptied later that day. the nose thing didnt start until last sat/sun. its certainly cleared up a little bit and hasnt effected her breathing at all. lol as i write this she staring intently as i strike each key. shes become so obsessed with the sound of bells as well its absolutely hilarious. yes i definately look forward to not being her personal playtoy but its all part of the fun. i love her to bits. already nervous at the thought of spaying as ive read there can be complications but it has to be done as i shall not be using her for breeding and its better for health in later life ive been told.its only showing on one of her nostrils now currently so i think your right about it just passing with time. if it does get worse and changes her behaviour or habits i will certainly rush her to get looked at but hopefully she will be fine until the 24th when she has next vaccination and health check. will be getting her microchipped then as well. got a good year long junior pet club deal with my vet that included both sets of vacs. spaying, 5 free health checks, 12 months of parasite control and few other things but yeah i made sure i have gotten the best for my furry baby :)
i certainly am much happier hearing from other owners though as i think its very benificial

Spider has a really dry nose all the time, his eyes get it as well. When I took him to the vet the first time he said its something he will always have. I didnt know there was such a thing as 'bengal nose' though!

Jagger's nose can be a bit dry sometimes so I came on here and asked as I'd heard of Bengal nose - and I was told about the vitamin e oil. But it cleared up fine. Hendrix's nose on the other hand is always very moist!

Mine still play with their toys and have the zoomies and go bonkers, they never grow up! You can't help but love Bengals and their craziness!

Most females experience zero complications when it comes to spaying. And I think the earlier you have it done, the better. Check and see when your vet recommends. Many kittens are spayed and neutered before they ever leave the breeder at 12 to 14 weeks. There is no truth that a kitten needs to experience one heat before spaying. The younger your kitten, the faster the recovery!

Our Margay had a terrible dry, chapped nose as a kitten. We used vitamin E oil on it twice a day. She grew out of the dry nose when she was about 1.

The majority of vets say five to six months for spaying. However, a female can do into heat as early as four months! So if you can get it done before the symptoms start, the better off for you and Luna!!!
