Finally decided to get started with leash training. Problem is that we can't seem to find a harness that fits... neck girth and chest girth are good with "L" sizing, but we have the feeling that the "back strap" is still too short. Anyone have any advice regarding those "longer" cats?

I have same problem. I think that "back strap" is too short too. I don't find some "bigger" yet. And our boys behave like a physically handicapped in harness.
Maybe I will try sew some vest.

I order our cat harnesses from Mywood cat jackets. See mynwoodcatjackets.com. They customize the harness for your cat.
Measure around the girth (behind the shoulders and around the neck. Pull the tape measure as tight as you can.
The only time Quasar was able to escape his harness was when it was not tightly enough fastened.
I have had no success with the commercially made harnesses.

I agree with kyenta, Mynwood are excellent as they are made for your cats measurements.

The shop bought ones seem to be all the same length and I find the are easy to escape from.

It's worth paying a bit more for a really good solid one.

The back strap to the "H" harness is supposed to go just past the front legs and not in the middle of the cat's belly! Mine uses one and it works for us perfectly! They are adjustable in the straps, but not the area in between the straps. Walking jackets work well as long as the cat doesn't mind the extra fabric. In the summer time, it may be a little hot. Raiden sweats (yes, sweats) under his black harness.

It's weird... maybe the strap isn't too short, but it seems like he's somehow getting hindered in moving his head and stretching his neck. But maybe that's just because he's not used to wearing it. Anyway, Mynwood looks cool and I've written them. Weather won't be hot for awhile yet.

Received the Mynwood jacket, Maria was a great help and it fits perfect. We're outside every day now...
