Does anyone with more than one cat experience them strategizing against against you? When both are in the house, I can't shut the patio door so they usually take turns visiting me inside so closing the door is not an option.

This morning I let them stay out until I was ready to go to work. I called them and neither one appeared which is unusual. I found them out on the far edge of the patio under the lounge chairs. Grace pretended she would cooperate and headed for the kitchen door. Blondie stayed under the chairs. With each one I lifted, she moved to the next until finally she came out and let me pick her up and carry her to the kitchen door without wiggling or clawing my clothes. I put her inside and closed the door and went to coax Grace in who was now heading in the opposite direction in a full trot. I can't really pick her up so I had to "talk her in." Then open the door just wide enough so she could get in and Blondie couldn't pop out. It was in the mid 80s with 75% humidity so I was not thrilled about there little game as my hair frizzed into an afro. They are usually pretty good but Grace caught a lizard this morning and brought it to the "killing mat" in the bathroom. She was holding it by the remains of its tail and stroking it with her other paw growling as Blondie looked on. I picked it up in a tissue and the lizard let out an audible sigh. I guess my cats wanted another lizard since I took their morning treat away.

Jill, your Grace and Blondie are something else. My only battle with Raiden is when he runs outside through my legs and I have to sneak up on him, talking to him softly so he doesn't bolt, and grab him when he least expects it. I thought you purchased something for your patio door that would allow the kitties to come inside on their own and you could keep it open a bit. Did that not work out for you?

I have to figure out a way to get them both into cat carriers on Saturday so I can get their nails trimmed. Last night Blondie touched my mouth lightly with her paw and her razor sharp nail made my lip bleed. She wanted me to stay awake and rub her belly. Usually she just touches my nose with her nose Now she is reaching out with her scissor hands. I have put off the nail trim for over 6 months because I can't figure out a way to surprise them both. I can get one, but then the other one will take off and then there is just no way. I almost have to trick them in different rooms without the other knowing.

Thankfully, Raiden is easy to get into his top-loading carrier! I can pick him up and put him in with little trouble. I know Raiden has sharp claws, but he never uses them on me. Long Legs loves his belly rubbed, but I have to pull my hand away before he snatches it! He's gotten me a few times. Good luck!

I'm sorry that insert thing didn't work! Wouldn't be so bad if Florida temps were about 70 degrees year round. You could keep your doors open! Summer is really warm down there, even with that ocean breeze.

The humidity is just so high half the year. We had a cold front come through yesterday and it is just spectacular out. Another one is coming through tonight so I decided to take Friday off and have a lunch party at my house Sunday. It's probably the last great weather weekend we will have until next year.

Ada and Babbage don't normally work together, but they did in the cattery:

They were in for a week and repeatedly tried to escape. One time when Tina, the owner, opened their cage Babbage went low and as Tina bent down to stop him running out between her legs Ada used her back as a trampoline and was out the cage and off down the corridor, hissing at each cat that she went past.

When I went to collect them Babbage escaped from the pen and launched himself at the wire mesh of the door to the opposite pen and stayed there, clinging on. Tina said, with a smile "He's good at that, isn't he". :-)

I took them in for mani/pedis on Friday. Now Blondie can knead me with abandon, it's great. I put it off for so long because transporting them was difficult for me. I finally got them a big carrier on wheels that they both comfortably fit into. It has a retractable handle so the only effort is paying it into and out of the back seat. I almost think they enjoyed the process. There was none of the usual howling. Although for the past two days Blondie has been meowing in this voice I never hear before. There must have been cats at the vet office in the back that taught her how to do that.

The perfect carrier can make all the difference in getting them to the vet! Happy to know your skin will be scratchless.
