The lizards are back. I just saw Blondie race across the patio with a tail and pair of feet dangling from he mouth with Grace in hot pursuit. I am not sure why but they bring the lizard into the house to "play" with it before devouring. I can tell they have one from the very low rumbling growl that slips out from the cat's mouth with the trapped lizard. I guess hunting and eating is what makes them excited and happy.

 I guess I shouldn't complain when Diesel catches bugs

Every now and then we find a baby lizard in the house and try to catch it and move it outside before the cats find it.

The worst is when they hang around the ceiling and torment the cats. The cats climb to the top of their towers and leap up toward the ceiling thinking they can catch the lizard! My heart stops watching them.

I thought lizards were around even in winter. We seemed to see them year round. Kitties are fascinated by them. I used to find them deceased and not devoured by my kitties. We do have some in Nashville and Raiden loves to give chase, but they usually find a place to hide where he can't get to them. Lizards can slip in under any little crack! Your screened porch is deal, Jill.

They must hibernate half the year because they are just not around. They are back now laying their eggs. Soon it will be summer and they will be all over the screens on the patio, inside and out. Just hanging there. The cats catch several a day bu they just keep showing up. When I put my car in the garage at the end of the day there are a bunch of them on the garage door. As the door opens, they run up the door and around to the inside of the garage. They multiply like crazy, but they eat insects so I guess they are good to have around.

Lizards are cold-blooded, so their level of activity is greatly affected by ambient temperature.

Ew, luckily the lizards here stay in the bushes. What ones he's seen he hasn't caught. Grasshoppers though... he goes on walks specifically to hunt them down. And try to pull my arm out of the socket.

I think south Florida had a pretty harsh winter compared to most years and that might be the reason. When we lived down there, it barely got below 50 degrees ever!

It really depends on the size of the lizards......these are quite common and are quite harmless and usually just run away.

LOL Symba Kitten! That made me laugh. There are a few huge ones that have that spiky crest over their head running down their backs around the lake in my back yard. My cats don't seem to see them or care. They ate a lizard or small frog last week and threw up for a few days. Ugh, why don't they learn. They are finally back to normal.

I don't know that lizards or frogs are the best nourishment for a cat. Many are poisonous.

These are very well fed cats so they are not eating them for nourishment. I believe it is sport. Just try and stop them, it is useless as they cannot control themselves. Sometimes they get sick so I wish they would leave them alone but they get on the patio and into the house. All I have to do is open the front door and they drop from the frame and run into the house. It is getting cooler so hopefully they are gone for a while.

South Florida has a gazillion lizards!!! There is really no way to control them. They need a water source. Do you find them in your pool, Jill? When we lived down there, we had dead lizards everywhere as the cat loved to kill them (but never ate them). They also die inside the house if the a/c is on and there is no humidity for them. Shriveled up lizards or frogs aren't fun to find either. We do have some lizards here in Tennessee, but nowhere near as many as you do.

No, never saw them in the pool.

Happy New Year Sherry. I am getting ready for a NYDay brunch and Grace and Blondie are all atwitter with excitement. Nothing like furniture appearing on the patio and sparkly dinnerware and fancy napkin rings to get Blondie into naughty mode. Every thing becomes a toy in her eyes.

Happy New Year to you, too, Jill. (And everyone else reading this). Enjoy your brunch! I'm sure it will be party time for Blondie and Grace as well.
